National
Institute Of Technology Sikkim (NIT Sikkim or NITSKM) is an Institute of
National Importance in Sikkim state of India. NIT Sikkim started functioning in
August, 2010. It is being operated out of a temporary campus at the Barfung
Block, Ravangla in South
Sikkim till its permanent campus comes up at Khamdong.
The institute has a central library which caters to all the academic needs of students. The academic buildings are all Wi-Fi enabled. Computer labs are also connected to the internet through high speed LAN. An Auditorium is inside the campus for important occasions and cultural events. The institute provides boarding facilities to the students and the faculty members, on the campus. The Institute provides separate hostels for the male and female students with separate mess facilities. The Institute has a playground with facilities for playing cricket, football etc. It also has facilities to play badminton , table tennis etc. Yoga, Rock-climbing and Kho-Kho are likely to be introduced shortly.
Studying at NITSKM
NIT Sikkim started admitting students for the academic session 2010-11 with an intake of 30 students in each of the following branches of Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programmes:
· Computer Science and Engineering
· Electrical and Electronics Engineering
· Electronics and Communication Engineering
· Civil Engineering (started in the year 2013)
· Mechanical Engineering (started in the year 2014)
Admissions to the B. Tech program in the Institute are based on JEE.
PhD. programmes have been introduced from the 2015-16 academic year.
Life beyond the classroom
Xplode Cricket Cup is the annual intra-cricket tournament while Sangharsh is the annual chess tournament .
UDGAM is the Annual Cultural Fest organised by the Student body and ABHIYANTRAN is the Annual Tech Fest of the Institute. The Electronics and Communication Department has its unique tech-society, ANUVRAT.
Placement History
The placements at NITSKM have been consistently good.
