NIT Tiruchirappalli – City of the Rock fort

National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli

The National Institute of Technology (formerly known as Regional Engineering College) Tiruchirappalli, situated in the heart of Tamil Nadu on the banks of river Cauvery, was started in 1964. RECT became NITT in 2003.

The College has a total campus area of 800 acres. The campus promotes the academic and extra-curricular interests of the students. The Octagon is the pride of the campus equipped with modern facilities like a CAD/CAM Lab, Local Area Network, High Speed Internet connection and other seminar and conference facilites.

Apart from this the campus provides ample opportunities for developing extra-curricular skills which include NCC, NSS, Students Chapters of IEEE, social clubs and sports & games. There is a Hospital, Post & Telegraph, Telecom Center on campus. A fully computerized State Bank of India (SBI) NIT branch with ATM facility, Book stall, Reprographic Center, Canteen, Swimming pool and Co-op. Stores are also within the campus.

There are 18 boys’ and 5 girls’ hostels. Together they accommodate nearly5320 students. Two more boys’ hostels are under construction to accommodate an additional 5850 students.

The institution offers Under Graduate Courses in ten branches and Post Graduate Courses in twenty one disciplines of Science, Engineering & Technology besides M.S. (by Research) and Ph.D. in all the departments.

Life beyond the classroom

NITT hosts two inter collegiate fests namely Festember which is the Cultural fest
and Pragyan, the Techinical fest. An
inter department cultural fest namely NITTfest is held annually. These fests
draw students from most colleges of South India. Each department also conducts
Symposiums. Amruthavarshini, the Carnatic
music group organised musical concerts.

Placement History

Over 220
companies participate in the placement process every year. The average
compensation during the 2013-14 session is over Rs.6 lakhs.
