“Oh My God” probably the most common and easiest words which instantly comes out of almost everyone’s mouth in different situations of life. We humans remember God in every single phase of our lives whether it be our happiness, success, sorrows, downfalls etc. but the universal truth is that most of us remember God in our bad times because somehow we also know that no matter how hard and difficult a situation is in our life, praying to God will going to help us in overcoming that phase of life. When it comes to our traditional “Indian society” OH MY GOD! can be best explained in terms of various indeed bizarre rituals and customs followed by many people, just to get in touch with the almighty. Let us take an instance of 2013 released, a must watch & prominent movie which had this out of the box approach considering our Indian cinema, named “OH MY GOD!” staring actor Paresh Rawal as a common atheist man “kanji” who don’t believe in any kind of existence of the almighty, Akshay Kumar who portrays the role of the Lord Krishna who has come to rescue kanji and to show him that God does exist. It also features Mithun Chakraborty as a self styled God man who claims to have a copyright on the name of God. When kanji loses his shop in an earthquake his life turns upside down, insurance company also refuses to give him any kind compensation for the damage classifying it as an “Act of God”. In order to claim his damages he files a lawsuit against the God. Since kanji has no idea where God resides so he send the court summon to various God men and sadhus this leads to an epic battle between the two in the name of the God. This story worked as an eye-opener to our Indian society who blindly follow all types of unnatural rituals and customs just to bring good luck & prosperity. For example if something is not working as it should be, so as to reach the desired expectations people make promises to God in terms of materialism by way of “bribing” the almighty. Our society is clearly in a trap of these orthodox and superstitious beliefs when it comes to worshiping of the God. In our country people donate huge amount to various temples or God man in the name of the God whereas no one is ready to spend a single penny on a needy person.God is the one who has created this universe & he believes in giving not in receiving. God has given us life to do good deeds and to make ours & others life more meaningful. We should understand that God is within our own soul. Cherishing one’s soul and bringing happiness to others life is the only way to get connected with the God, so stop following blind beliefs & customs in the name of God.
