Road to adventure from Jaipur to Bhangarh

I am a die-hard roadie. All through my college days, I yearned to undertake a road trip with my best buddies. This dream came true in the last semester when I travelled to Bhangarh by road.

For the uninitiated, Bhangarh is infamous as the most haunted place in Asia. It is an abandoned village in Alwar, and the fort is believed to be haunted by ghosts. There is a notice at the entrance of the fort that prohibits visitors from staying over at night. Although we were not lucky to have an encounter with the ghost. The place’s eerily silence, however, gave us goosebumps many times. Let me take you on an excellent journey by road, from Malaviya National Institute of Technology, (MNIT) Jaipur, to Bhangarh in four hours.

Our mid-term exams had just finished and as usual, we were bored to death. To add a dash of excitement, what better than a road trip to Bhangarh we thought. Bingo! We took to the road early on Sunday morning. Although it was bright and sunny, the cold breeze gave some respite. We were moving ahead at a speed of 60kmph. The best part of a road trip is that you can stop at any spot and stay there for as long as you want. We covered the distance of 100 km from Jaipur to Bhangarh in four hours, stopping in between for a quick grub twice.

After we had reached Bhangarh, our first effort went into finding the ghost. We entered many restricted areas and explored the entire fort. Alas! There was no ghost that day; probably they were also on a vacation.

The fort was destroyed in the Mughal invasion, but whatever remains of it, is indeed splendid. The hills surround the fort and atop these hills are the temples of the kingdom. As they say, “one man’s trash is other man’s treasure,” the remains of the fort gave us some beautiful location for clicking selfies. It is not just the fort but the surrounding hills that give a breath-taking view of the area. The real piece of fascination was a patch of land which was lush green and surrounded by date palm trees.

After spending five hours in Bhangarh, frolicking around the fort, clicking pictures at every place possible, we started for our college and reached the place at 9 pm.

Such impromptu road trips give you a bag full of sweet memories, tonnes of pictures and many jokes to crack. We should take time out from our busy schedules and experience at least one road trip in our lives. It will be truckloads of fun.
