The apex court has removed the stay in IIT JEE counselling today on July 10, 2017 for admission of engineering aspirants in 93 institutes conducted by JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). The anxious candidates will be relieved as the court passed an order after staying the counselling procedure on July 7. Almost 30,000 engineering aspirants have so far accepted their seat through the JoSAA counselling at the end of the second round. The court order would mean there is no need of a fresh merit list.
This will keep the timeline of starting the academic session in reputable IITs across the country on track. IIT Bombay and IIT Delhi, which have already filled all it’s engineering seats in the second round itself, will be able to start their academic session from the scheduled date on July 20.
Hearing the matter today Justice Dipak Mishra and A M Khanwilkar stated that the IITs organising the examination must remain careful from future and there should be no printing errors causing such ambiguity.
PaGaLGuY spoke to the petitioner’s advocate D K Devesh who informed about apex court’s decision to vacate the stay and reinstate counselling. “The court ruled out the stay which would mean that the counselling procedure can resume,” said Devesh.
IIT Madras, the conducting authority of JEE Advanced 2017, had awarded bonus marks for the three ambiguous questions asked in the examination. The committee formed by IIT Madras to look after the matter decided to offer bonus marks to every candidate irrespective of the fact whether they attempted the questions or not.
In response to the writ petition ( WP (C) No. 000469/2017) filed by Aishwarya Agarwal, an IIT aspirant who took the JEE Advanced 2017 examination, the apex court on July 7 had hinted that it is against the idea of providing the bonus marks to everyone who took the examination. But, keeping in mind that a sizeable amount of engineering admissions in these institutes have been confirmed, the apex court decided not to interfere with the process for the academic year.
