There are generally very few government job opportunities for candidates who have only completed their higher secondary level education. But there are still some excellent job opportunities available to such candidates through the Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Examination (CHSL) conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
Every year SSC conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Examination for the recruitment of interested candidates for the position of Data Entry Operator (DEO), Lower Division Clerk (LDS), Postal Assistant and Sorting Assistant, and Court Clerk. Selected candidates are posted at various ministries, departments and organisations operating under the Government of India.
SSC specifies eligibility criteria for each position to be filled under the CHSL Exam, and it is mandatory for the interested candidates to fulfil the complete eligibility criteria to be eligible for the CHSL exam. Under no circumstances are candidates given any relaxation in the eligibility criteria, other than those mentioned in the recruitment advertisement.
Moreover, candidates must ensure that they meet the eligibility criteria before even applying for the vacancies as otherwise it will be a futile exercise.

SSC CHSL Eligibility: Nationality
As per the eligibility criteria specified by SSC for the CHSL exam, the candidates must meet the nationality criteria in either of the following ways: –
- Candidate must be a citizen of India or
- The candidate could be a subject of Nepal or
- The candidate could be a subject of Bhutan or
- The candidate could be a Tibetan Refugee who come to India before 1st January 1962 with the intention of settling permanently in the country or
- The candidate could be an individual of Indian origin from Burma, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, Kenya, Zaire, Uganda, Ethiopia, Malawi, Vietnam, or Pakistan and should have migrated with the intention of settling in India permanently.
SSC CHSL Eligibility: Qualification
- Candidate must have passed class 12th examinations (10+2) or any equivalent examination from a recognised board or university of India.
- If a candidate has a qualification obtained through distance learning or open universities, then it should be recognized by IGNOU’s Distance Learning Council.
- For the position of DEO with the office of CAG (Comptroller and Auditor General of India), the candidate must have passed class 12th exam in science stream and should have maths as a compulsory subject.

SSC CHSL Eligibility: Age Limit
- The minimum acceptable age for SSC CHSL Exam is 18 years.
- The maximum acceptable age for SSC CHSL Exam is 27 years.
- Age relaxation criteria are applicable to the upper age limit as per the guidelines specified by the government of India. In order to receive this benefit, candidates need to produce the relevant documents and certificates issued by a government authority.
