Sshrishti derives its name from the word for“creation” and its vision is to create a literate India based on an equitable society where children and women are not denied their birthright, and are empowered to follow their dreams. Personally, I have been associated with Sshrishti for the last two months as a part of the Social Innovation Program or SIP at SOIL.
The overall approach that I have followed has been a mix of top down and bottom up strategies and finding the sweet spot where we can get people and organizations to involve themselves out of personal commitment and not due to any sense of “charity”. Last but not the least, we did a field trip and made a door to door connect with local people to get rice, grains, food items and money which would make Diwali more brighter and shining for the kids. The most astounding aspect was that when we shared our NGO story with people,in return they shared pieces of their life, and simple possessions.
The biggest impact the SIP initiative has had on me is there affirmation of my faith in humanity and the belief that people are intrinsically good. They always want to help and share their own happiness and joy with others. Also it has helped me understand better what the term bottom of the pyramid means and how some of the things like education, access to food, clothing, clean water etc. which we often take for granted is actually a boon for others. I have always heard the term India versus Bharat and this project has been my eye opener to these terms and what it means in a society that whilst operating at multiple levels still coexists in harmony. I have also felt the pride in the eyes of the people who run these initiatives and how they are helping create productive and future good citizens for the country.
