Startup assists IIT Roorkee students’ placements, after refusing to hire

Startup

Startup first backs out, then assists IIT Roorkee students’ placements The placement season of 2015 has been a roller coaster ride for five students of Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee (IITR). The students who were offered jobs by a home shopping website called Zimply, were left high and dry after the company faced a financial crunch and couldn’t recruit them. The startup, incubated by a group of IIT-R alumni, is now helping these student by applying on their behalf to different companies.

These five students had completed their internship at Zimply last July, and had received Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) letters from the company in August 2015. As students accepted Zimply’s offer, they were rendered ineligible to participate in the recruitment process for other companies. The affected students have now been appearing for interviews at other companies through Zimply’s reference. An electrical engineering student who got a PPO from Zimply acknowledged that the startup is helping them out.

Prof. N P Padhy, Professor-in-charge, TPO, IITR said, “We have forwarded these students’ applications to companies that visited the campus during the last placement season. Some companies have also come for a second round of recruitment, which the students can apply for.”

With the students being called for fresh interviews, and support from the institute, they are hopeful of graduating from IIT-R with a decent job in hand like theirs peers.
