Syllabus And Exam Pattern For The RRB Group D Exam 2018

Railway Recruitment Board (RRB), a Government Board of India aims at fulfilling the recruitment needs of new employees in Indian Railways. RRB conducts Non-Technical Popular Categories exam for various posts all over India.

RRB Group D exam pattern:

Being aware of the exam pattern is a must for each and every candidate in order to crack the exams easily.RRB Group D selection will be done in three stages. They are:

  1.    Computer Based Test (CBT)
  2.    Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  1. Computer Based Test: This is the first stage in RRB Group D exam. CBT will contain 4 sections. They are:
  •    Mathematics-25 questions,
  •    General Intelligence & Reasoning- 30 questions,
  •    General Science- 25 questions and
  •     General Awareness & Current Affairs- 20 questions

CBT is an objective type test with multiple choice questions. 1/3 of the marks allotted for each answer will be deducted as a negative mark. For a question left blank, no penalty marks will be awarded. The duration is 90 minutes for general candidates and 120 minutes for eligible PWD (Persons with Disabilities) accompanied with a scribe. If the candidates are able to clear the cutoff fixed by RRB, they will be selected to appear for the next round. The minimum required percentages of marks in various categories are as follows: UR/GENERAL-40%, OBC-30%, SC-30%, and ST-30%.

  1. Physical Efficiency Test: The candidates who cleared CBT will be called for Physical Efficiency Test. Based on the marks of the candidates; they will be called for PET. The number of candidates for PET will be two times community-wise total vacancy in as notified by RRB. PET will be conducted to test the physical capabilities by means of some tasks. This would be different for both men and women.

Male Candidates: They must be able to lift and carry 35 Kg weight in 2 minutes for a distance of 100 meters without leaving the weight down in a single chance. Secondly, they must be able to run a distance of 1000 meters in 4 minutes 15 seconds in a single chance.

Female Candidates: They should be able to lift and carry 20 kg of weight in 2 minutes for a distance of 100 meters without leaving the weight down in a single chance. They must be able to run a distance of 1000 meters in 5 minutes 40 seconds in a single chance.

  1. Document Verification: based on the candidates’ performance in CBT with a subject to the qualifying nature in PET, they will be called for the document verification process. For PWD candidates there will be compulsory medical tests also. In the case of two or more candidates securing same marks, their merit position will be determined by seniority basis in respective of their ages which means that elder ones will be given priority. The candidates selected will be appointed by taking into account their medical fitness test, final verification of their educational qualification, community certificates and verification of the conduct of the candidates/ antecedents. After this, the final selection will be made.

RRB Group D syllabus 2018:

Following are the section-wise syllabus for RRB Group D CBT:

  1.    Mathematics: This topic will comprise of questions from basic school mathematics. This includes Number System, BODMAS, Decimal and Fractions, LCM & HCF, Ratio & Proportion, Percentages, Time & Work, SI & CI, Algebra, Elementary Statistics, Age Calculations, Pipes & Cisterns, Mensuration, Time & Distance, Profit & Loss, Geometry & Trigonometry, Squares & Square Roots and Calendars & Clocks.
  2.    General Intelligence & Reasoning: This section includes Analogies, Coding & Decoding, Relationships, Jumbling, Alphabetical & Numerical Number Series, Mathematical Operations, Syllogism, Venn Diagrams, Conclusion & Decision Making, Analytical Reasoning, Directions, Data Interpretation & Sufficiency, Similarities & Differences, Classifications, and Statements- Arguments & Assumptions.
  3.    General Science: In this section, questions will be from 10th standard Physics, Chemistry and Life Sciences.
  4.    General Awareness on Current Affairs:  This section will contain questions from Art & Culture, Business & Economy, Committees & Recommendations, and People in News, Defense News, Government Policies & Schemes, Capitals & Currencies, Appointment & Resignations, Awards & Honors, Books & Authors, National Affairs, and Places in News, Days & Events and Sports.
