This article has just been updated with fresh info from IIM HQ.

The Common Admission Test (CAT) 2012 results have been declared. According to information available with PaGaLGuY.com, ten of the 1.91 lakh candidates who took the exam have got a perfect score of 100 percentile.

Nine of the ten are engineers, and one is a a BSc graduate who has marked Chemistry, Mathamatics, Chemistry, Statistics as his subjects and is Delhi based. One runs a coaching centre in Chennai and was a top scorer even last year. Five of the toppers are still in their last year of engineering. The huge number of engineers, however again goes against the robust attempt by CAT officials in recent years to attract fewer engineers into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs). The CAT exam had undergone a few changes last year to attract more people from Humanities and Social Sciences background as compared to the bulk of engineers who take CAT and apply to the IIMs.

Ironically, however, this year too the engineers have come tops in CAT 2012. Guess, this only means that if IIM officials want to seriously attract a more diverse group of candidates, much more thinking and discussion will have to take place to bring about sweeping changes.

There were no women candidates among 100 percentilers this year though quite a few in the 99.99 club. Apparently, more than 255 women and 1,640 men have scored more than 99 percentile.

Till then, hats off to these toppers!
