The one thing that doesn’t abide by majority rule is a person’s conscience
To start with, the thought presented by Atticus is very true for all the human beings. There is always a unique feature or an individuality of a person’s thought which is projected in his sayings.
India being a democratic country everything is decided on the basis of majority. Even if you want to form a government you need a majority in the election. But one thing which cannot be obtained by majority is your own conscience. Ye it can be affected by the thoughts of the people around you but the decision taken by you are solely yours.
There are times when people choose to move with the majority but the one who firmly believe in his decision stands tall at the end. “The world moves in the direction where the mob tries to take it, but the mob is always driven by the leader”. For example, the father of our Nation, Gandhiji drove us to Independence which was hugely supported by the people of the country. He had a different view from the rest of the people, he was not with the majority but he created the majority himself by taking a different step and enlightens the thoughts of people which were buried in deep corner of their heart.
To sum up it is very clear that your own thought is your projection to the world. One has to choose whether he is bold enough to project the thought against the majority and make a difference or align himself with the majority to play safely.
