Prakash Prabhu’ day starts at 6.30AM, and by the time he is on his chair at the modern office of ANZ Bank, Bangalore, it will be 8.45. As a financial analyst, Prakash is now working on the pitch book of a major client and in the last 16 months has created several country reports and industry research papers. Statistical analysis and the detailed explanations he makes in his reports help ANZ’s clients to raise capital, mostly overseas. The work is very involving and demands intelligent decision making before typing each word. Prakash enjoys everything about his work. The welcoming work environment and challenging content and of course a good pay package motivates him to work better. As he recalls, now he draws nearly two and a half times the salary he was offered at the time of his appointment at ANZ, a year and a half earlier.
Prakash is a BE (E&C;) graduate who joined SDM Institute for Management Development, Mysore in 2008 for the PGDM 2008-10 program. Prakash knew that with his two years plus work experience at Philips, if he adds a good PGDM to his CV, it will work wonders for him. He always remembers his days at SDMIMD in those two years. Same is the story with Amrita Kamath, who is now Prakash’s colleague at the ANZ Bank. She is a BE (Computer Science) graduate and a course mate of Prakash from SDMIMD, Mysore. Both of them reminisce the fun they had with all their batch mates at Mysore while studying PGDM 2008-10.
It all began with them taking CAT 2007 followed by their applying to SDMIMD, Mysore. They went through the interview process and were given admission for the PGDM program. Any student who enters SDMIMD, Mysore immediately falls in love with the serenity and pleasant environs of the lush green gardens, award winning infrastructure and a homely atmosphere. The academic year is interspersed with various festivals, gatherings, business fests and guest lectures. The hostel life, with single occupancy hostel rooms and a student mess hugely popular with the students makes it difficult for them to forget those days. It was here that both Prakash and Amrita learnt Yoga and played games with their class mates. Sometimes, they fondly recall memorable incidents while speaking with their course mates.
The work ethos at SDMIMD stems from its origins, the SDM Education Society, Ujire. Part of the Sri Dharmasthala Trust headed by Dr D Veerendra Heggade, the pilgrimage shrine at Dharmasthala feeds over fifteen thousand visitors a day throughout the year. SDMIMD, the dream of Dr Veerendra Heggade, was established in 1993 and moved into its present location in 2004. Today, SDMIMD is a well known land mark in Mysore and all over India for PGDM aspirants. Many of its illustrious alumni dot the corporate space in India and abroad.
Several of the faculty have successful books to their credit, are visiting faculty at various well known educational institutions in India and abroad. The work day is as rigorous as it can be. Prakash and Amrita recall their busy days and nights while they toiled to complete their assignments and studied for the exams.
Still, SDMIMD does not give a picture of frenetic activity or a tense atmosphere, one feels calm after entering SDMIMD. You can identify an SDMmite by the reputations they carry in their working organisations. Regular recruiters have a lot to say about their association with SDMIMD, continuously for the last few years. Students like Prakash and Amrita keep the SDMIMD flag high at their organisations.
