VIT Mumbai flash mob: Audio failed, enthusiasm escalated

Students from VIT dancing to ‘Lean On’ in a Ghatkopar mall on Saturday

Visitors at a renowned mall in Ghatkopar were up for a pleasant
surprise waiting for them last Saturday. The students of Vidyalankar
Institute of Technology, Mumbai, organised a flash mob to entertain the
visitors in the mall and spread a word about their upcoming fest, Verve 2016 –
A Genesis.

The event kicked-off with a street play titled ‘Nasha Karo, Jaldi
Maro’. Vishal Shegde, the director of the play, said, “Our act preaches how
deaths caused due to
alcohol and tobacco consumption is reducing burden of population in our country. If the ‘warnings’ do not deter them from consuming it, we have to find
other ways to spread awareness.” The act, performed by ten students of VIT,
tickled the sarcastic bone of the spectators as it conveyed the ill-effects of
consuming alcohol and tobacco in a humorous manner. “We have performed this act
over 15 times, but this, by far, is the largest crowd gathered by us,” says
Arudra Gore, one of the performers.

When the students had caught attention of the
people in the mall, VIT students from the crowd emerged for the flash mob.
About 50 students took the centre stage and shook leg on various songs, right from the Bollywood item number ‘Afghan
Jalebi’ to the rage of the year, ‘Lean On’. The crowd joined in to support the mob when the
audio stopped due to a
technical issue. “My favourite moment here was the humming of tunes by people
gathered inside the mall when the audio had failed. It was amazing to see the
students dancing to the songs sung by the crowd,” said a girl
who witnessed the event at the mall.

Verve 2016 – A Genesis, the annual fest of VIT, is scheduled from February 16
to 18.
