Timeline of BITS PILANI
-
Seth ShivNarainji Birla established a ‘Patshala’ in 1901 to educate his grandsons. After that, the patshala became a High School and then an Intermediate College.
-
The Birla Education Trust was established in 1947. G. D. Birla officially took over the Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani in 1964. The Ford Foundation lent a hand to the university, which then teamed up with MIT in the United States.
-
The twenty-first century marked a turning point in the university’s development. Apart from Pilani, BITS has opened branches in Dubai, Goa, and Hyderabad.
BITS Pilani is a deemed university that offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses in Science, Humanities, Management, Engineering, Technology, and Pharmacy across all four campuses. Aside from these, they offer programmes such as Practice School to give students more exposure to industries. Many part-time courses are available.
BITSAT
Every year, BITS PILANI holds the BITS Admission Test (BITSAT). BITSAT is a computer-based examination (CBT). It allows students to enrol in BITS PILANI’s Integrated First Degree Programs at the Goa, Hyderabad, and Pilani campuses. They offer nine B.E. courses, six M.Sc. courses, and a UG pharmacy degree.
Candidates who are attempting to gain admission to BITS PILANI in Dubai may or may not take the BITSAT exam. However, if a foreign candidate wishes to study at BITS PILANI in India, they must take the BITSAT exam if they do not wish to apply through the International Admission Scheme.
NIIT University in Delhi accepts BITSAT scores in addition to BITS PILANI. However, the candidate must apply to that university separately.
BITSAT 2022 Exam Date
In the month of May, the BITS Admission Test (BITSAT) is usually held. The aspirant can expect to receive a call for the BITSAT exams every year in December. At the earliest, the application will be released in March. The mock tests will be available on the official website during the months of March and April. The candidate who has registered is allowed to practise as many times as he or she wishes.
It is not possible to apply for BITSAT in an offline mode. Aspirants should, however, keep up with their official website for the most up-to-date information. The majority of competitive entrance exams will take place in the months of May and July. The application process, on the other hand, usually begins shortly before the 12th board exams. As a result, frequent visits to the official websites are required. It is preferable to have all of the documents ready in the proper format before applying for the exam, in order to avoid last-minute chaos.
The following table shows the sequence of events, including the release of the online application form and its deadline, the online test date, the last date to download the hall ticket, counselling, and the announcement of the selected candidate list.

BITSAT 2022 Exam Pattern
The exam schedule for the year 2022 is shown below. The majority of the time, nothing will change. The candidate must, however, check the official website.
Mode of examination
The test is conducted entirely on a computer. The candidate should use the keyboard and mouse in the respective test centres to answer the questions displayed on the monitor in the Computer-based online test (CBT). The candidate has the option of selecting his or her preferred test centre, date, and session.
About the exam
-
Each candidate will receive a different set of questions.
-
The questions will be chosen at random from a large database. The difficulty level of all the question sets will be the same.
-
English is used as the medium of instruction.
Exam format
-
The exam is held for three hours straight with no breaks.
-
It is divided into four sections, with a total of 150 questions.
-
The questions are of the multiple-choice variety. Among the four options, the candidate must select one that is correct.
-
Each question will be worth three points, with a one-point penalty for incorrect answers. There will be no marks awarded if the question is left unanswered.
-
The candidate has the option of skipping some questions and answering them later. There is no set time limit for each part.
-
When a candidate answers all of the questions without skipping any, he or she will be able to answer 12 additional questions from physics, chemistry, and biology/mathematics; four questions from each section.
-
If a candidate prefers to answer extra questions, he or she will be unable to go back and correct an answer during the exam.
-
Answering the extra questions will increase your chances of getting a higher score, but incorrect answers will result in negative marks.
The subject-by-subject mark distribution is shown in the table below.

BITSAT Cutoff
The cut-off mark is the minimum BITSAT score required for admission to BITS PILANI university for that course and campus. In the case of the BITSAT exam, the cut-off appears to be the least important factor because the candidates’ preferences will determine which course and institute they will be offered. As a result, the cut-off is determined by the demand for the course and the campus. In the event of a tie, they take the candidate’s 12th grade as well as section-by-section grades into account, so the candidate must be focused on that aspect. The BITSAT score cut-off for the years 2021-2022 is as follows. Every year, the cut-off score varies. Because the course vacancy and campus are determined during the counselling process.
