just had a talk with one of my friend who gave her interview today..
GE topic - plan a day out on how u will spread AIDS awareness
write solutions on how u will improve the conditions of farmers and ensure they have water supply throughout
there was a another basic questionnaire on how fir u are etc..etc..
Dunno much details abt the interview.. but it was cool..

Case : Was something about a farmer and irrigation problem...very easy had to suggest the farmer something....it was just for fifteen min and we were supposed to write just 5-6 lines sharp.
GE : Had to construct a layout of a living room of a house with all the materials available on the table . Had to put the media and communication gadgets and optimize it.(View : Concentrate on being a group and not an individual, take ideas share keep check on time....)
Another test asking us to honestly answer about our own fitness level.(God knows why was this test taken)

P1: silent guy.
P2: Old Guy, concentrates on you thought process , career goal etc
P3: Stern lady, checks your general awarness
LM: Lucky Me
P2: (Looking at my Acad's and a gold medal nomination) Don't you think you should do your M-tech since you are so strong in your Acad's
LM: Career goal, entrepreneurial desires, ...and all the real blah i have thought about my life (Please be honest)(Gave a real long answer)
P3:Asked about Gujarat's branding both +ve and -ve
LM: Explained and impressed her..(Please know your state really well)
P2: Asked my favorite Ad or campaign and why
LM: blah....
P2: about my involvement in social causes ..had written in the form
LM: described everything honestly, with a note that my education followed by work and then i manage time for social work
P3 : pushes me in a corner saying you should join our entrepreneur course..
LM: Stood ....by my career goal...and course..why i applied to this specifically
P2: what other colleges you have applied for
LM: all marketing driven colleges like IMT-G and XIM-B
ALL in all they want to know you well so just open up and talk..but be clear why this and not that ...

Let me start with this... for those who still dun hv accomodation at ahmdabad, & pleasure club has already been booked for the days of ur stay, i found this really good place with a really good deal. my mum actually found this place through a colleague of hers.....its nt a luxurious hotel but a very comfortable place.. i paid rs 850 for an a/c room & two single beds per night. quite a good deal according to me..
i paid 120 bucks frm d airport to the hotel & 45 bucks frm the hotel to IIM-A gate.... the proprieter, a certain Francis D'Souza arranged for an auto to tk me der... very helpful guy...

now for the GE-PI process:
i reached IIM in the morning where a bus was waiting to take us to MICA.. mica was like a half an hour drive from there.. MIca is a beautiful campus i must say....Its HUUUUUGe....in every sense of the term (i actually got lost and had 2 ask for directions to find my way back).. and when they say red brick building they actually mean it.. its made up of red bricks....n theres greenery all around
neway we reached the campus and were them ushered into the audi ( the audi is very unique.. its got these huge flag like things on the wall.. n we had to sit on the floor on cushions... very unique)
we submitted our sops n then were divided into groups and taken into different rooms.
we were further dived into our ge groups..
my GE group had around 8-10 people.. this is where i met Deval Ma'am for the first time... n trust me shes very sweet.. only her hair is longer as compared to wats on the website photograph.. n she reminds me of a favourite teacher of mine in college.
neway leavin that aside we were given chart paper, felt tip pens, and a glue stick and were asked to draw a city layout to show where would strategically place our aids awareness campaigns.. i was lucky enough to get a group that worked together as a team...no dictator... had creative team n an art team... it was fun.. got very very involved.....n before we knew it it was over...we were given arnd half an hour for this.... n we were given funny apron like things to wear with numbers on them so that they could identify us better,,,
neway after this we were taken bk to the room. we were given a question and asked to provide solutions: something about how do u solve the water crisis of a certain farmer called jitubhai in gujarat-----15 mins for this
next we were given a mini questionnnaire aking us to rate ourselves on our physical fitness..i dunno wht they did with this-----5 mins for this
we were then allotted to our pi groups...they started & in the meantime people who had slots later in the day had lunch... im a diehard nonvegetarian.... but i have to admit i really relished the veg food here and ate enough....

Interview panel consisted of a man , lady 1 n lady 2... now i dun remember who asked me what... lets just pretend there was jus 1 interviewer
in short this is what they asked me.. m not posting my replies.. my fingers are paining typing so much
* ask us anything that u think would ensure a seat in mica ( i was stumped here....i din answer n ws jus lookin around thinkin of an answer)
* are u nervous(yes)
*y r u nervous( a lot is at stake dats y)
*whn do u stop gettin nervous(whn i get into the flow n im distracted)
* u have very nice handwriting... ( thnk u)
* are u creative( yes spoke bout my canvas shoe painting n my bags n my folders and how it all strtd frm those malhar days)
* why arnt u in NID ( cuz my creative streak strtd pretty late)
*gimme an instance whr u displayed your leadership skills)
* do u knw neone frm mica
*who have u met frm mica
* wht do u knw bout it..( spoke bout the clubs......told them i wanted 2 strt a cheerleading team... they looked at me as if i was talking greek .. m sure they did that to unnerve me)
* what specialisation? ( dunno yet but maybe market reasearch or account planning)
* whts account planning.( explained... but kept saying HE does this, HE does that..)
* so its a HE? ( that way i should be saying womankind or mankind)
*dun u think its unfair whn the ipl spends so much...n so many ppl in india are below the poverty line..( none of my business wht lalit modi does with his money...)
* its not his money entirely.bcci is backing it financially.. ( yes of course, bt then we'll hv to put restrictions on world cups n test matches and everything else... n its not like the ipl is not generating employment)
*wht would u do if u wr lalit modi would u give donate 25% of ur earnings( ive not been a hoarder all my life.. ill keep enough for my needs and i dun mind donating. neway driving forces in my life have always been recognition and appreciation)
* so we'll give u a job that doesnt pay ( no no ma'am nuthin like dt)
* enough is a very subjective term .. wht does enough mean( i have a lifestyle to take care of.. if i cn tk cr of dt thats enough for me)
* which means money is not a driving factor..( no.. ive always looked for recognition and appreciation)
* so if we stop recogniding and appreciating your work ull stop working( no ma'am my peers also can appreciate it)
* what if they do not.. there can be jealousy n competition ( ma/am in that case when u knw uve put in ur best and have done a good job what anyone else has to say wont matter)
* what if i give u lots of money wht will u do with it( ill open a bakery.. dt ws one of my likes...)
* so what a waste of the degree... ull earn this degree and work for a while and then earn to open a bakery later? ( no ma'am ill open the bakery.. side business.. will manage it .. wont be actually BAKING in it)

then walked the whole campus which is huge as i mentioned earlier..but very beautiful.... din like my interview... its not as rosy as ive described it.. they kept cuttin me out while i spoke..was very dissapointed... my interview ws so not form based.. din ask me why mica ? why shud v take u? ( a lot of them however got asked these ques.. i think they jus got bored and din want 2 knw anymore reasons). but a lot of ppl got questions based on their hometowns .. politics especially so prepare for that..
trousers n a shirt should work well for a girl
tie and shirt for a guy is a good bet..
at the end of the day. got a spot offer

frankly speaking i cudnt have prepared for this interview....but as chuck said its good to clarify ur thoughts on why mica n why should they take u in n all. imagine them poor people gettin the same stories n lines from everyone... so prepare that one well n say it convincingly.. nutin u cn do to prpare for GE... jus remember to b a team player....n pray... cuz it worked a miracle in my life today
