not the kinda questions i first expected, but i'll answer them anyways
the MANDOVI is across the road.... almost touching the college premises....
and bout partying... we party hard.... (if we get time).... happens mostly on saturdays (when everyone on campus is high)

Hi srini.
i am interested in GIM .. how much percentile in XAT does one need to obtain for a GIM call .. also do they have sectional cut offs.. i heard the infrastructure in GIM is really good..
thanks in advance

hi
last year XAT cutoff was 82%tile if im not wrong (to give u a better idea of XAT cutoffs, XIMB closed at 88%tile and XL at 94%tile)... and GIM did NOT have any sectional cut-offs last year... also from what we know, XAT score had LIITLE role in final selection (i personally feel it was completely ignored during final selection).... so gettin a call is not that tough...

about the infra, yes we have excellent learning infrastructure.... physical infra is also good...
but our USP is faculty and course content/design.... this has been acknowledged time and again (especially by academicians and other academic institutions) and is comparable to any B-school in india. its because of the above that we have become one of the best b-schools to study in india in just 12 yrs. also our alumni is doin very well.

hope that helps... if u need more info, do post in
srini

gr8 goin Srini....keep it up

ppl....this is Sandeep frm GIM
at present our term break is goin on so we got time to answer ur queries (if any)

I remember that at this point of time last year I was completely confused wat with the rankings sayin somethin, the classes another and so on.

Though Im not sayin anythin I say would "un-confuse u".....it always helps in makin the rite decision if u hav the views of somone who has actually been there.

So feel free....an i will do my best

ciao

Thx Srini for the info .. u gave a good overall perspective .. now one more query .. Is GIM known for its expertise in one particular function as such.. for example XL is good for HR... me interested in marketing.. so can u give me a rough idea of the kind of companies tht pick up Markt grads from GIM ..

2. What is the Eligbility to apply to GIM?

Minimum 50% aggregate marks in a three-year Bachelors degree (or equivalent) recognised by the Association of Indian Universities/AICTE. Candidates who will complete all requirements for the degree by 24th June 2006 may also apply.

Ohhhh GOD ..... My final exams are also in JUNE 2006 .... I hope that they will be over before 24th ...... otherwise :( ..... Won't they allow any relaxation of 2/3 days etc. ??? ( I know they won't 😞 )
avg salary last yr was around 3.9 lacs, while median salary was around 4 lacs. the figures provided are fair and true, unlike some b-schools who forge their figures. this yr the picture looks bright as of now. its only in the last 2 yrs that we have started tracking our alumni, hence placement shud improve significantly in the next few yrs (remember that institute is just 12 yrs old, still we have our share of VPs in almost all sectors). also dont go by salary alone, as job profile is important. we allow companies on campus only if they offer management trainee positions. some b-schools allow companies, especially the big companies, even if they are offering non-managerial jobs (Executive Trainees or lower). we have turned down some such big companies due to the above reason, even if they offer good pay packets.

as for asterix, marketing placements are one of the best in GIM with good positions offered. placements in HR and systems are also very good. in the finance front, they are imroving and this yr we hope to get some big names. not many ppl prefer operation as a major in GIM, so campanies coming are also less.

some companies that came last yr (that i can remember)
IT & Consulting Sector: Wipro, Ernst & Young, Satyam, TCS, Cranes, Mastek, HCL Technology , Thoughtworks and NSE.IT.
Banking & Financial Services: Citibank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Group, ING Vysya, Darashaw, Indiabulls, Batlivala & Karani, ICICI Lombard, ING Vysya Bank and Development Credit Bank
Engineering: TVS Electronics, Ashok Leyland
Pharmaceuticals: Nicholas Piramal, GlaxoSmithKline
FMCG: Godrej & Boyce, Usha International and Eveready
Retail: Shoppers Stop
Others: Zee TV, Star India ( NDS) , Welspun, TNS India, IMRB, Positive Moves & Ma Foi
hope it helps

If you are looking at Marketing, GIM is the place.. we rock in marketing... 80% of our marketing faculty are Ph.D.'s from IIMs.
The permanent faculty at GIM are also visiting faculty at IIM-A, L, I and XL. Apart from holding Ph.D's they also have a min of 10 yrs industry experience.
Apart from this our course content in Systems is one of the best in place. HR and Finance are pretty decent though not as popular as Marketing.
Cheers...

GIM does not look at sectionals Vishal....or atleast till last yr we did not.

overall GIM closed around 81% or so last time....but with more students appearing every yr for XAT this figure mite go up a bit this time around.

Though 81 was the cutoff last time ppl in my batch hav scores rangin frm that score to 99 also. A coupla my friends with % in the high 90's did not get thru....this leads me to believe that ur performance in the GD PI is given a lot of weightage too.

hope this helps
