Hi Peepol,
This is the batch of 2007. We are well into the course, having taken one set of exams and suffered umpteen sleepless nights doing....
We know that you guys are preparing hard for CAT, and beyond... and the good thing is that not only do we remember our days of preparation for CAT, we have not forgotten our days of GD/PI too. And now that we have met and interacted with the profs who took our interviews, and also others who got through, we have come to know something. The course structure, the activities, the grind. So here we are for you. Ask, and be told.
hi sesh

thnx mr. spammer aka seshagiri for startin this thread .. and guys as giri mentioned it has been bout a month n half since v r here at iiml .. n it has been one hell of a rollercoaster ride already .. max fun at times n it also gets frustu smtimes ..
first of all the infra has been amazing .. especially the library is one heavenly place here .. both for the ghissu junta as well for the rest .. man the kind of sofas these guys hav put in here n then superb air conditioning will definitely make u spend sm time there .. u may even choose to take a nap lying full stretched .. no questions asked .. n its the ultimate resource pool if u want sm serious workout .. hailed as one of the best in asia
campus is gud .. n let me dispel those misconceptions ki u dun get sleep here at L ... man ask me .. ack its quite a mix of ppl v hav here .. n workload no doubts is heavy but then it depends on u till wat limits r u willing to oblige .. n m doin no bad here acads wise with gud 8 hrs of sleep ... there r ppl who give themselves only 3-5 hrs of sleep n study rest of the time .. so it depends ..
waise as the fact goes .. the sheer amt of books tht v were given at start of term 1 was overwhelming .. really was scary .. itna to pure 4 saal engg mein nahi padha tha but so far .. finished wid mid sems wid no trouble at all ..
for me it has been a smooth transition frm grad to here .. partly becoz i hav 19 ppl frm my coll (NSIT) joining IIML this time .. n now the circle .. or network as sm mite prefer to say is quite big
a typical day begins with a buzz of the alarm clock .. but then wats the snooze button doin there at the top .. so there u go again n then wake up just on time .. class is goin to start at 9:00 and if its 9 it means 9 .. no half measures there .. so v hav learned to b on time ...
there is not much class room teachin tht goes in here .. typically 3 -4 hrs a day is all u hav to attend .. faculty is gud .. sm profs r gods in their respective fields .. one prof who is teachin us serves at Wharton for 6 months n 6 months here at L .. others are considered to be amongst the best in the country in their fields .. n its a gud experience sittin in their classes ..
yeah there r sm personal dislikes as well .. atleast it takes me sm patience n effort to keep myself charged in sm lectures
tho the teachin hrs r only for 3-4 hrs .. but there r loads of activities goin on in the campus at the same time ... for instance today v had football finals of the Sikander - annual intra hostel sports tournament ( Hostel 12 again won the footie event )
v also had hostel party today .. music, food n drinks
plenty many events r happening .. INDEX .. then whackopreneur on 30th and then sm supply chain mgmt gaming etc .. man u will hav ur hands full at any time ..
lots of committees which u may apply for and choose to b a part of .. u name it n u get it .. frm consulting to finance to marketing to strategy to entrepreneurship .. operations .. systems .. everythin ...
n the place where the junta is seen hangin out most often is our very own nescafe .. even when v hav a 10 min break in b/w classes .. v just rush to this place n hav our cup of coffee ..
junta is no doubts intelligent .. its a decent mix overall .. tho v hav engineers in plenty on board .. but then v hav ppl frm every bckgrnd here .. a doc , an ias, a journalist, CA's .. work ex .. non workex .. married .. non married .. n its fun to b among this diversity ..
last but not the least .. girls .. yeah this resouce seems scarce in our batch but then those in our senior batch quite make up for them .. newayz apna aangan to soona hi hai
so tht was my part of the story .. sm of the other iiml junta mite also hav their versions .. let them come guys .. anand n kaul dude .. u listening
cheerz
.... .. newayz apna aangan to soona hi hai
hmmm....
As far as no of hours of sleep goes,it is purely what u make of it...how u choose to utilize ur time is upto u....u could become the guru of any subject u wish, the resources available r unbelievable...or u could simply chill most of the time and scramble abt at the last minute for a submission or a qiiz...the choice is YOURS !

well i have had a good time here for the past 2 months
We had lil session during our induction where we got gyaan from Alumni who had flown over from all over the globe and they seemed to emphasize the need to find "what you want to do". Since this will be the last full time educational program for most of us here, going into the right field is imperative. As a result I've been spending quite a bit of my time recently in finding my true calling.
One thing i have realized after coming to a B school is that the junta has very different expectations from the 2 years
Many people are here for placements, a few for learning and some 'coz they simply didn't like what they were doin earlier, hence an MBA seemed the most logical thing for them to switch to another domain
Personally, I feel that the stress on CG here has gone a lil overboard. Sometimes you forget that there is more to life than mugging , OB can do that at times ;)
Learning opportunity is huge, especially for someone who has not had interaction with courses like the ones we have, like engineers like me.
You learn the value of time management, not that I've learnt how to do it yet, though i feel that if you know how to manage your time efficiently you can make time for everything that you want to do.After the four year holiday called engineering, paucity of time can seem like a rather alien concept.
Apart from that the rigmarole of quizzes assignments and projects is perennial and you get used to it pretty quickly.
Now off to a lil nap and then back to mugging :)
Rohit
Where u got place ?
Hi Peepol,
This is the batch of 2007.
Ask, and be told.
can anyone please tell me phone number of book shop which is in IIML campus
Hey guys let's resume the activity in this thread.IIML seniors pls throw some light on life @iiml
@IIML seniors,
Can we please have some life in this thread. We need more inputs. We need to know before we come there.. Then we'll start posting ourselves!
Till then please keep us posted.
One thing i did not like, and would want u to elaborate.. What does thi mean???
class is goin to start at 9:00 and if its 9 it means 9 .
We in engineering never heard of anything like this
I hope I can survive there. And also find my right calling. till then please tell us more that we need to know.
Seniors@IIML
Please put some life into this thread.
Would be Joining this Year and reaaallly reaaally eager to know what to expect.
Well, i am sure you all have a lingo there. Can you throw some light on the most commonly used words, so that we dont have much trouble in the first few days there.
hmm so on popular demand one vella replys :)
on a more serious note although I feel that some nuggets of info have already been given here but still to satiate the curosity let me put in some views ..... maybe they might sound a bit wiser and a bit weird at the same time coz last post on this thread was made by a guy in 2nd term and now all of us are into 2nd year .... with many more grey hairs....nevertheless as u said..some more life to thread.
Since there is a query there let me tell you class at 9 means 9.... its not engg pal...not anymore...its MBA and its tough. but wen it comes to surviving .... well u r not gonna be put into africa's jungle and eat earthworms fir survival(although mess food at times is not much better)... u'll survive easily and comfortably like ur truly has done.
As already mentioned inthis thread u'll be "formally" inducted into hell by faculty, alumni and seniors for around 3 days. then the regular classes will start. Initally it may feela bit of a pain specially to engg junta who are used to reachinig a 9:30 class at 10:25 but then u'll get used to it or should I say will havta used to it. First term will throw lotsa new courses at you which will leave u as clueless as alice in wonderland, but u'll learn them, slowly but surely.
Sleep is a big issue with ppl coming to hell. how many hours of sleep totally depends on the way u want to live life. its common to sleep for less than 4 hours on most of the days however sleeping for more than 6 hours is not that uncommon. If that statement sounds confusing let me put it simply.... u'll get "enough" time to sleep but that enough can not be quantified as it varies from person to person and from prof to prof.. towards the end of the temr yes, there is a big chaos for submissions so then u'll havta cut down on sleep. just fyi, thr r times wen I can sleep for more than 6 hours ezily in night but I prefer not to coz there is so much to do and I dont want to miss out on it. And I am sure neither do u.
ON extracurric front there are lotsa committees here, even I cant recall the exact number, all committees have there own screening and selection procedure. U'll be inundated by a flood od presentations sometime in ur first month thr wen u'll get to know more about them..... just a brief hint... thr r special interest grps for finanace, mark, ops(this one is mine.... just FYI 😉 ) , strat, industry interaction cell, entrepreneurship, index, manfest et al.
On party front .... I am sure u must've cursed me had I not mentioned this.... thr r insti parties once a fortnight, hostel parties r thr wen ppl in hsotel agree to it... section parties though not tht frequently... music...drinks...dance... u get everythign thr to let ur hair fall and unwind.
I stay in the new hostel which are fabulous....no comments onthe older ones(slums) coz I wud like "those" guys to come in and talk about tht. yeah btw..single acco... shared loos and np.
Mess food.....hmmm..hmmmm..hmmmm.. now this one is a toughieee.... let me put it like this.... ppl who have stayed in hostel for grad find it good, ppl who were dayc schols find it bad.... no more ideas....dont wanna bias ur "unspoilt" mind or shud I say stomach !
I can handle a few more queires here (if my company gives me time for tht) and as a winding up anecdote, this happened last yr during inductin wen we were as curious and as scared like u ppl r at this point of time. One of the alum was asked a question by a guy" will I survuve over here" and he said " dekh...mereko samajh nahin aa raha hai ki wat u want. Now if u expect ki din bhar room mein pair utha ke pada rahunga aur i'll do well toh aisa nahin hoga... pair neeche karne padenge". same is my feeling about the place.

well great thread people.......i guess most of the life seems summed up already but if someone can still bring up something new please do.....so far iam guessing that IIML takes care of all ur stationary needs as in buks and other material or does it??? and well how come there were 17 NSITians in IIML last time.......well this time only 5-6 i guess.....so ny predefined reputation for NSITians that we have to maintain.....
Hey rohit ..thnx for reviving the thread
Can you please shade some light on typical weekday in the life of 1st yearite?
pratset Sayswell great thread people.......i guess most of the life seems summed up already but if someone can still bring up something new please do.....so far iam guessing that IIML takes care of all ur stationary needs as in buks and other material or does it??? and well how come there were 17 NSITians in IIML last time.......well this time only 5-6 i guess.....so ny predefined reputation for NSITians that we have to maintain.....
i am sure this time too NSIT will maintain it's reputation of sendind many of it's students to helL...last time too most of the NSITians got thru in second list only...let's hope for the best and find most of the NSITians in helL....
@pratset and alok...yeah I am sure NSIT ppl will do tht.... btw FYI I too have walked in and out thru the "wind tunnel" for 4 years :)
@anandV.... a typical day...hmmm.... I wonder if there is ever such a day in hell but still I'll give it a shot. Lemme forewarn you the SD can be and will be huge from what I write.
Let our protagonist is a simple Mr. X.
Assuming class starts somewhere at 8:30 in the morning , depending on his convinience and his athletic abilities X gets up somehere b/w 8 to 8:25. Usually classes will run till afty somewhere around 1-2:30, although this is where there are huge variations as profs hold extra lectures and then different sections have different timings. Still if everything is under control X will be out of PGP block(thts where classes r held) by 2 o clock and have a peaceful lunch in the mess. Then its totally upto X what he wants to do. He can catch a few Zs or gossip around with friends or play or do whatever. Usually ppl catch a nap and then after waking up either go for jogging or TT or something after which there is a round of studying pre dinner. And yeah thr r snax in the mess which I feel is the best thnig emss has made in long long time. Then dinner , again X has a choice, mess or canteen. Then X will do some soul searching and pinging on messenger to realise there are n no. of cases to be read before class tomo. So night time is when thngs hot up @ hell. cases, pre class reading, post class reading, assignments, studies, projects, movies,CS, AOE, f.r.i.e.n.d.s., coupling and ...ahem ...ahem.... eveything rolled in tht time. So after a chapter on organisation behaviour, half a chapter on Legal aspects of mgmt and struggle with case of manac , poor Mr. X decides he has had enough and goes to sleep again to run to the class the next day.
if it sounds boring, scary or otherwise....just a simple thing... just be there coz " u aint seen nothing yet !"

alokgoel Saysi am sure this time too NSIT will maintain it's reputation of sendind many of it's students to helL...last time too most of the NSITians got thru in second list only...let's hope for the best and find most of the NSITians in helL....
i seriously doubt that my friend.....all NSITians have cleared themselves in the first list itself and there r hardly ny people waiting........5 goin to IIMA, arnd 4-5 to IIMB and IIMC each.....
1-2 to IIMI.....and none in IIMK
so thats the scene here....
