[2010-12] Discussion thread for TISS HRMandLR GDPI call getters

zain imfy Says
14th June! Phew..one tension over!

biggest tension of all is the results on 20th April.

Hello everyone.

Well this post goes out to every TISS aspirant. I have been a regular visitor of PG since past 2 yrs. I got an activation mail which I ignored that time , thinking that who gonna write a post!! . But post TISS GD/PI experience, I thought to share my experience to all my friends over here. After trying umpteen number of times , I finally activaed my account and here goes my first post. :

TISS GD/PI date: 16th march 2010.
Time: 11 AM.

1. Reporting at the new campus, Academic Block2, Floor 2, HRM Hall.
2. I waited for my turn. They called out my name with 6 others. We were sent to GD room. The panelist were very calm and composed, very articulated. GD was fine. It was a typical HR based case study "Charles is some supervisor, just got promoted and now he is handling his own team, putting tem lot of pressure and hence drawing a flak.".. . Got thru by 11:30 PM.
3. Waited till 4:30 PM in the afternoon. the waiting time was nail biting time!! Finally my turn came. The panel comprised of 4 elderly and experienced people. Guess of them was HRM Dean !! There were very smart and articulate. I must say that teachers there are very well read and simple and that shows from their body language . I was asked plethora questions from different domains related to me. In all, it was little stressful, and becaus eof which I got little confused in last 2 questions.

Overall enriching experience. I won't comment on my chance, since no one can. You never know the last 5 min can make or mar your interview .. Giving a TISS interview was on my wish list and I hope I be there. I wish luck to everyone reading this post .:cheerio:

Some questions:
1. so your SOP says "talent , manpower" what is the difference?
2. Difference b.w talent and competency?
3. lift man's example- what is his talent and competency?
4. Why HRM?
5. Aren't you limiting yourself to IT/Globalisation?
6. What is HR, where will you find HR?
7. so maid, unorganized sector also needs HR?
8. Preference on G&L;/HRM?
9. Asked about non-conventional sources of energy? - It was my theory paper in B.Tech
10. Why not engineering? You are so good at it.
11. More about HRM.
12. What qualities does HR has ?
13. So hw do u think is your interview going?
14. About my last company and why was it called so(One97 Communications Pvt Ltd)?
15. Recent J&K; bill.
16. 2 male and 2 female political leaders..

PS: I think i was speaking more in terms of Globalization/Outsourcing and Stretegic HR perspective and they also commented that ain't I restricting myself in one domain. I hope this doesn't become a marring situation :-o. My last 2 question were not satisfactory as well.. though I tried answering to the best of my knowledge.. :cheerio:

All I wanted to say.

Had my interview on 15th at 9:00 AM slot.

GD: Was a simple HR case study. You are the HR manager of FMCG comp. There are 2 ppl under u...Ramesh says 25% salary hike to the engg/management grad....Prakash says 60 % salary hike should be given to emp with 4-5 yrs....You do not have sufficient bugdet to fund both...which one would be prefer. 8 ppl....all did a decent job....I Spoke couple of times, not much. But i think i chipped in some good points. Panel already warned not to cut anyone. So i didn't.

Interview: 5 ppl in a panel(quite intimidating). Had a strong SOP and was sure i'll be grilled heavily on that. Was quite prepared for that. The first question was tell me something about yourself. gave a brief about how i perceive and define myself. Most of the I/W revolved around that. Talked about the kind of relationship I have with my family and friends. 'Why HR' came along when i mentioned about my weaknesses, tried to convince them.

Discussed about how I define HRM and one of them tried to convince me that i was wrong. Sticked to my beliefs, and he didn't try harder.
Little bits of acads as i mentioned about participating in paper presentations. Was asked to explain about a paper I made during my summer training. No cross questioning.
and now that I remember we never got around to talking about why TISS, my long term goals, short term goals and other usual stuffs.
One thing about the TISS interview experience that really stuck out- the panel members were very friendly and genuinely tried to understand you as a person.( atleast that was with my case)

What i personally felt about the interview was that it was more about personality check rather than aptitude and goal check. They let me be 'ME'.
overall. Satisfied. Jaisa bhi result rahe.
meanwhile met AFC and Akshay Vannery.
Awsome guys, very friendly and very ambitious.

Though its irrelevant here but i would like thanx all of my friends in and out PG who helped me in my preparation right from the beginning; to the very well known Super Xero to not so known Poonam87, topgear, Abhishek, Nikita and Shalini.
They are very special and will continue to be.

@Arvind4MBA
hey,,,frdzz help,,me i want to knw sumthin

about TISS--Best college if you really want to be socially responsibe/contributing and excel in HR.

wats d no.of seats dere in 2010-12 batch..???-- 59

wats d cut off to get a call,,???-- This time I believe it's 40 out of 70. this 70 is the cumulative/scaled score. If you see the paper format , TISS entrance has 2 parts- Part 1 is general and very basic and Part 2 is HR specific. Part 1 is given 25%weightage and part 2 75%, and that's how we arrive at the cumulative score. Check out the sample papers as well.

wats r courses TISS offered which on good..???

placements,,,???-- Consultancies, FMCG's, IT/ITES, BFSI..

weightage criterias...?? Check the brochure

frm where i can get its previous papers..???-- one sample paper is uploaded on their website but the part 2 is little unexpected part. Last year, it had one section on Probability. This year it was good and balanced paper with 4 sections as defined in their brochure. The latter can be found on their website. :cheerio:

This year the cut off for written test was 41 out 70 for general category.
Based on this cut off calls for gd and pi were given.

What is the use of knowing Placement figures in a social science institute???, and they would upload it on appropriate time.
relax buddy, first we need to see the fieldwork companies, the tiss life, the Tata brand, very negligible fees, the male:female ratio, if you consider all of these placement figures are just a fragmented part my brother. Let the GD/PI results come out first. It is still very competitive.

"Money is not the measure of everything in life"

@white snow
Friend,i am nt taking it personally...

Everdybdy knws that TISS is an institute of repute....Placement is just one of the factors.... the others which i feel

1)The right blend of fieldwork and theoritical concepts...mon.tue consists of fieldwork....each semester u can choose the sector u want to work with...4 different sem u get a chance to work in diff sectors...Apart frm that u have summers.....so by the time u sit fr final placement u already have 4-5 sectors to add to ur resume.....

2)faculty

3)Research and publications(students do get into research as told by seniors)....

4)Alumni base

5)Peer grp

6)and last the final placements.....

well i knw "dilli abhi dur hai "and its too early to ask...its certain that some will make to this esteemed institution and some will miss the bus...

It was just a casual ques to seniors(due to anxiety nothing else....)

No offense meant to anyone....

@ Seniors - Most of the management institutes give final admit calls to more students than what the actual intake is. For eg. if there are 60 seats then 100 students are finally selected and the waiting list is given beyond these 100 students. Is this also true for TISS?

Just out of curiosity as we have a long wait ahead.:-(

Needless to say i am not calling TISS a B School

i am not sure if the criteria is like the above mentioend one but i had spoken to one of the seniors during my interview and he said that 55 poeple joined last year and then 7 left after tat. one got thru UPSC and one trhu JBMIS some in IIMS so they left. and TISS didnt replace them with the waitlist people so now their current batch strength is 48 only.

I had my gd/pi on 17th
both went well

but at the end of my Pi ,one of the interviewer(middle aged lady) said

TWO ANNOUNCMENTS

1. We will not provide u any job :shock:
2.We will not provide u hostel facilities.U have to arrange it outside the campus

I passed a foolish smile and conveyed my regards

I can't figure out what to make out of it

I guess they might have wanted to see your reaction to the two bombs. For the second one, we know that hostel rooms are less in numbers and outsiders are given priority for them. So that may be the case. :)

Hi Seniors,

Can we expect an early/surprise result declaration ie before 20th April?

why they take so much of time.........in declaring the results...when everything was done in front of them.......and they were marking instantly even...at that time only. It is a long wait........
