I am interested in programs: 'M.A in Developmental Studies' & 'M.A in Elementary Education' through TISS? Can anyone elaborate on the points like probability of getting selected in written and GD/PI, reputation of these programs along with the placements etc?
Well i am really interested in the HR field and the word TISS never stays behind.Currently i am working in one of the top three companies and planning my higher studies next year.I would like to know about the HRM course of TISS as their involvement in HR field fascinates me. Following are the doubts which i have....if nyone can shed a light on these would be really helpful.
1)when is Tiss held....Has the actual notification come out?
2)The curriculum for HRM in TISS....would it help me if i am suppose to return back the IT industry

3)The scope of doing HRM from TISS...
You yourself are praising TISS on one hand and asking about the "scope" of doing HRM from TISS on the other hand??
Still, let me tell u, the "scope", if a word like that exists, is immense. When it comes to HR, TISS is a huge, huge brand.
Do not believe me. Ask any veteran or even a novice in the HR field and you will get an idea.
Answering the first 2 questions,
1) If past is any indicator of the future, the notification might be out any time now . Last year, it came in the beginning of Sept.
2) The curriculum is exhaustive in itself and it is complemented with field-work, something that differentiates TISS from rest of the institutes. In fact, TISS has been awarded the best HR curriculum award by many reputed agencies many a time.
A humble request to everyone here. Please DO NOT post stuff like "I missed TISS by a whisker last year". "TISS is my dream college" and others.
While I can completely understand your feelings as an aspirant ( I was on the other side just some months back), we also need to respect the purpose of this thread.
This thread is for any queries that u might have. Imagine if all the people who could not get through TISS last year were to post it all here, where would u go to ask your queries??
You are more than welcome to ask your queries and I would be happy to answer them. But please do not post irrelevant stuff here

I am not from the courses that u have mentioned but will try and answer some of the general queries.
The probability of selection in TISS, or any institute for that matter, is both--0 and 1
Basically, it does not matter how may people have applied. At the end of the say, it's you who will decide whether u will be in here or not, right?
Recently, TISS completed 75 years of existence. It has a huge alumni base across programs. All the programs run here are very much respected, be it in the industry, healthcare services or an NGO.
Do revert if u have queries particular to any of the programs. I will try and get in touch with people from those programs to help u out.
@gdm4u87:Thanks a lot for the consideration and even i do accede to the point of getting selected depends upon the individual. Actually I just wanted to have a specific overview of the intake process, their post-MA scenario(actual/practical information besides what is written on papers in the brochures) regarding the programs i have mentioned, as I didn't find much about them on the internet (almost nothing regarding the two programs) .
If possible, it would be wonderful if you could connect to your friends from these programs and pass me some more information.
Yes I truly want to get into these programs, but being from a humble background, things aren't that much easy (financial issues and all).
@gdm4u87 sorry...please dont get me wrong...when i said scope....i mean scope of a person whu has done the HRM course from TISS in an IT industry....wat all job prospects he can look for

No need to apologize about it. I understand completely.
Also, to answer your question, your background matters, but not as much as you think post MA in HR (or any MBA/PGDM for that matter). You are as eligible to sit for interviews of companies from other sectors as other people in your batch are. It's not necessary that u can sit for just Infosys and TCS and not something like, say, HUL and P&G.;
Xactly....as i have done my engineering in IT....and im already working as an system engineer...was thinking how my experience is going to benefit me...Thankz:)
Pl could you tell what should be the strategy to prepare for the TISS exam? How different is it from the CAT?
Hi,
For prep, well I don't really believe one needs to do some special prep for TISS if one is a serious aspirant for other exams like CAT, XAT, SNAP, IIFT etc...In fact, the written test of TISS is one of the simplest of all the management entrance tests...Though, last year, it
was a tad difficult.
The thing is, it's a speed based test and has a lot of questions from QA, DI, VA and GK... There are no sectional cut-offs, at least that was the case till last year...There is little chance that this year there would be sectional cut-off this year...At least not in my opinion...
@priyankamanch said: TISS offers MBA IN HR only?If not what are the other good MBA courses offered by it?
And please tell me some good books to prepare for GK(coz I really suck at it )
I'm only preparing for CAT till now which doesnt have that section.
TISS DOES NOT offer an MBA. It offers an MA in HR. Though, it's just a technical difference. Basically, u will have a post-graduate DEGREE (and not a diploma) that is considered better than most of the MBA programs offered in the country.
MA is offered only in HR. Not in finance, marketing, operations etc.
For GK, have the habit of reading at least 2 newspapers daily. Also, try and get the reading material provided by various coaching institutes. You can also refer certain magazines like CSR. There is a GK thread on PG. That is also a good source for prep.
By the statement "MA is offered only in HR", I meant only in HR when we consider the programs offered in regular MBA/PGDM programs. Otherwise, TISS offers MA in 24 different programs spanning social work, development studies, health system studies etc.
Names and details of the programs are available on the website
Hii...... I am a software engineer by profession. I am very much interested in joining a course of the likes of MA in Development studies and MA in globalization and labor. the bad part is that I am not able to find out the details of the course.
I wanted to know that what are the career prospects of these course and whether my being a software pro of 1.8 years experience will hamper my chances of getting admission in this course....thirdly will b delightfully happy if you can tell me how the entrance of the above 2 differ from that of HRM and LR course
