Located amidst hills and rivers, the temporary campus of IIM Sambalpur is functioning in a state of the art buildings at the Jyoti Vihar, Burla – the education hub comprising the Sambalpur University, and elite Medical and Engineering University. Specked in the picturesque settings and nestled in Barapahad (Twelve Hills), the temporary campus lies at one end of Hirakud Dam – the world’s longest earthen dam and is surrounded by mountains, verdant forests, and Debrigarh wildlife sanctuary making the town very picturesque and close to Nature. The natural beauty of the jungles, river bed, and dam itself would surely not let down the birdwatcher and animal lovers.
The campus is surrounded by a large number of big industries such as MCL, HINDALCO, Vedanta, TATA’S, NTPC, L&T, etc. which provide opportunities on real-life experiential learning for students of IIM Sambalpur.
The permanent campus of the institute is under construction is expected to be finished in the scheduled time ( Aug 2022).
The airport is Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda, which is a drive of less than one hour. There are direct flights commuting for major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Kolkata, Raipur, Ranchi, Banglore, Chennai and Varanasi. Additionally, Sambalpur also has close proximity to Swami Vivekananda Airport, Raipur, and Biju Patnaik International Airport, Bhubaneswar.
Roads
Sambalpur has a well-networked transport facility for commercial and public transportation. It is connected to the rest of Odisha and India by the national highway - NH 53/Ecconomic Corridor 1 (EC1), which is a part of Asian Highway-AH46 (Mumbai-Kolkata Highway). NH 55 connects with Cuttack and Bhubaneswar, State Highway 15 connects with Sonepur, State Highway 10 (SH10) connects with Jharsuguda and Rourkela and the new Biju Expressway will connect Rourkela-Sambalpur-Jagdalpur
Rail
Sambalpur is one of the three railway divisions under East Coast Railway zone of Indian Railways. Sambalpur (SBP) is a major railway station in Odisha and headquarters of the Sambalpur railway division. This railway station is the cleanest railway station of East Coast Railway declared by the Indian Railway. There are four other railway stations serving Sambalpur, viz. Sambalpur City Railway Station (SBPY), Sambalpur Road Railway Station (SBPD), Hirakud (HKG), across the Mahanadi and Maneswar Railway Station (MANE)
