[2021] SimCAT 5 ( 23 - 26 July)

VARC: 20 (20/10) Pheww DILR: 42 (14/14) QA: 53 (19/18) OA: 115 (53/42)

Edit: AIR 38 (99.65)

VARC - 13 (dreadful)

LRDI - 30 (Maybe could have done one more set there)

QA -30 (defo 10-15 marks short as per my capability)

OA - 73

LONG way to go!

OA 67.

No words, No explaination.  Waiting for the analysis and need to increase the grind

VARC - 36 (18A/13C) LRDI - 27 (9A/9C) QA - 24 (12A/9C) OA - 87 (39A/31C) 95.05 %ile

VARC 25

DILR 24

QA 26 (11C/22A) - The pressure to accelarate after 2 tough sections , spoiled my accuracy , bringing it down from 80% to 50 %

Much needed wake up call to not take any section for granted

Hume to apno ne loota garon main kahan dum tha

Bhai ki kashti wahan doobi jahan paani kam tha

Another day, another disappointment.

VARC 30

Lowest ever. Low concentration with out of the world RCs.

DILR 38

Happy with it for now

QA 37

Pathetic accuracy. Easiest section of the paper.

OA 105

Might not cross 99, but okay.

Another day, another bad mock VARC-19 (13A/8C) have been scoring low in this section for some time, but this was the lowest of the season. Makes me doubt now that the previous string of good scores were a fluke in this section. DILR-30(10A/10C) need to increase the speed here QA-42(15A/14C)- was an easy section, couldn't capitalize on it because of bad VARC and DILR. OA-91(38A/32C) :/

19/30/34

OA-83

Biggest problem has been the inconsistency across all the three sections.

VARC question paper setter woke up and chose violence.

DILR and QA were pretty much doable.

On to the next one!

24 / 42/ 37 103 . Hardly any readable rc in this sim couple of questions were easy though . DILR 2 sets were very easy happy could achieve 100 % accuracy again. Qa was easy could have scored more.

VARC 25 ( 10C 9 INC ) ( Va looked easy but messed it up. one RC with 5 question was shorter and had many specific question . I think I get them only right . phew. might clear the cuttoff )

DILR  54  ( 18C 4INC ) Maybe messed up that 528 people seating

QA    65  ( 22C 1INC )

OA: 144

VARC-30(Gotta be adaptive)

DILR-24(Lost 9 marks due to a silly mistake)

QA-40

OA-94

This is going to be a rant about how horrible the RCs of this SIMCAT were but before we get there, I'll give a brief background about myself. I am someone who has 3 years of Work-ex (Non-Engineer) and is preparing for CAT for the first time. VARC has always been my strongest suit and across all the mocks that I have written of 3 different test series (CL, TIME, and IMS), I have never scored less than 40 in VARC in a 2 hours test. My average is VARC is around 55 for a 2-hour test.

Now let's go back to the RCs of this SIMCAT. The makers of this test forgot that they are picking passages for CAT aspirants and not for students of English Major. I have seen one or two difficult passages out of four but I have never seen a more brutal set of RC passages ever (and I have attempted official GMAT mocks too!). Even Shakespeare's descendants would've shat bricks after seeing these RCs. There's no way a normal CAT aspirant can solve all these RCs in 25 minutes. If CAT starts giving such RCs in their exam, unless you were born with something like Catch-22 in your hand, you would have to kiss your IIM dreams goodbye. The RCs that come in CAT are not difficult to comprehend for the most part because they know that would put a majority of aspirants at a disadvantage, as for most of us English is still not our first language. Instead what CAT does is, sets traps in its questions and options. But in these passages, there was no need to set traps as the passages were so difficult to wrap your head around that the questions didn't even matter. In a paper like this, unless you are someone who reads a lot about philosophy and psychology, you might as well just do only the VA section and take a power nap for the next 25 minutes before attempting DILR and QA.

I hope the test makers at IMS never repeat this atrocity.

Varc: 15 (could have done much better, don't know what happened today, any suggestions for varc?) Dilr: 35 QA: 25 (could have done better but faced technical glitch in between :( ) OA: 75 (a long way to go....)

First mock of my preparation. Overall- 87. Varc -43( contrary to most people here, didn't think it was that tough, eager to know where I faulted). Dilr -21 (power ran out, could only attempt 20 minutes. ) good start for the first time. QA- 23. Never experienced this before. I have been able solve most questions that come my way in a non mock scenario, but seemed to fumble with the timer on. Not even able to process my thoughts, could only solve the straight forward ones.) Didn't think I was this weak in QA. Definitely an eye opener. Any tips for time management and keeping calm? Also a real picture where I stand? Would've definitely scored 12-15 marks more in lrdi if I could use all of the allotted time.

edit: 95(99.96/72.42/74.85)

Can only laugh at the DILR and QA percentile and hope it was just a first mock mishap.

Varc : 4 (cat prep chor deni chahiye ab?)

Lrdi  : 38 ( 1 set short)

Qa :  42 (messed my strength, 10-15 marks short)

OA : 84.

Varc : 24

Lrdi  : 35

Qa :  46

OA : 105 (46A/37C)

SIM 5

VARC 12  18 A - 7 C ( whole confidence lost here to be honest) ( 12 is still not acceptable, kaisa bhi ho paper, 20+ to rhene he chahiye........) ( Putting in so much effort here , but kuch fayeda he nahi ho raha), khatam hai sab bc.

Attempted 2 RC's only and Verbal , I always play on accuracy but Ismei toh kuch samjh he nahi aaya.

DILR - 33 11A - 11C

QA   - 58  22 A - 20 C

OA -  103

VARC 9/5: 14  (agar RCs aise hi dene hai, to kewal VA naam dedo hamare liye) (psychological and philosophical sets nahi hote mujhse)

DILR 14/9: 26 (picked 1 wrong set unaware of the time left. plus the 2 set I did were with 100% accuracy, rest 5 answers were from other sets TITA and full tukka) (1 set short)

QA 16/14: 40 (could've done more)

OA 39/28: 80 (could have gone 100+ with favourable conditions)

VARC- 28    Bhai chahte kya ho? Hoping their analysis gives tips on how to manage such nightmarish RCs.

DILR- 42     Okayy
