1) Its very difficult for anyone to predict your percentile based on your attempts .. there could be an error of judgement by +/-10%tile sometimes .. so dont go by such theories
2) Apply to colleges which you want to apply for such as the dream league and keep 5-6 colleges in back up league
3) Applying to colleges beyond the top 40 bracket by PG rankings is not a safe bet ..
4) if you are sincerely interested in Finance dont apply beyond top 15.. finance profiles are rare in lower tier colleges , fin firms hire mostly for operations and sales in such b-schools
Management consulting profiles are rarely offered beyond top 10 .. colleges in India
5) Dont apply to colleges claiming to have PSU placements , PSUs have stopped recruiting from b-schools from this year
6) Dont apply to colleges having a batch size of more than 250 people ... placements decline rapidly after the first 100-150 students ..
7) Use your own brain and decide well dont go by just opinions being stated here , if you continue to do that you will make the same mistake as u did after 12th
8) Avinash and ajay and a few others are trying their best to help you but please dont ask the same queries again and again , try find answers in others' queries ..
@abhimukh19 Bhai, I disagree with your points 2&3. All others 10000% agree!
Point 2 - No point in adding to the income of the B-schools by applying randomly to all the ivy league ones and 5-6 of the backup without knowing what you can expect from CAT. Once you know approximate score/%tile then the dream institutes and backup's can be set accordingly. And that's the whole point of people posting here I believe.
Point 3 - Not because my institute FORE is beyond that rank 40 (its ranked 44!) in PG rankings. But I wouldn't recommend going purely by PG rankings. After all its opinion based, a community ranking methodology. Just having 4-5 active members from a particular institute active in PG can make them spread the word around and get them those required votes. You might say the questionnaire is comparison of A vs. B in it, but I know and have heard from the horse's mouth itself of people ranking some institutes better than IIMA, IIMB etc. So its not only judgemental (without having proper facts) but also preposterous!! Consider this - IIM,Trichy even just going by the brand name can't be ranked 29 in my opinion. And so many other institutes like that. The PG ranking only gives a feel of what is the opinion/judgement/preference of B-schools amongst the lakhs of aspirants and people already having a B-school tag!!

Nice to see someone agree or disagree that's how the best solutions are obtained :)
Point 2 was not about applying randomly , it was a message to students to do MBA from their dreams colleges rather than cribbing for 2 years and beyond , if you cant make it this year then try again ... or have back up and 5-6 are more than enough (my opinion)
Point 3 I will not comment on any ranking as such but just to give a reference list i mentioned it in my point . Its on the respective b-schoolers to guide students about their b-schools .. But typically i wont recommend people joining b-schools beyond top 40 in any ranking ..
Its all good when we prescribe b-schools based on percentile criteria , but it doesn't help a student as there is no qualitative opinions given since it may lead to controversial discussions .. but as i have time and again pointed out when we write something here , we have accountability for our words , we must respect that and prescribe b-schools which are genuinely good . Its one point sharing information and another advising others .. so the onus lies on you me and many others when we reply to others that we genuinely believe its a good b-school
I have given a framework which may help students to get into a good b-school rather than as you said blindly believing on opinions , rankings and placement reports..
I am hoping that the quality of posts will increase from just giving out lists of b-schools to actual opinions which helps others :)
PS: Its not a responsibility of a few to take this forum forward , its everybody's responsibility
@abhimukh19 I guess its better we take this up through PM, as otherwise, the flow of the thread and purpose of thread will be lost!!
@visionIIM-ACL, @ankur123xyz, @shekys, @abhi040386I guess the onus is on us and others like us who've been through the aspirant & MBA stages and now experiencing post-MBA, as we know/understand part of reality with Indian MBA!!

I suggest you to wait for your CAT Results and get back on this thread.
Till such time, focus on SNAP and XAT and try to score well. All the Best.. !!
@avinashkrjha thank you for prompt reply... but wont the major college admission application get over by that time?? yeah preparing well for SNAP n XAT...n got a nmat score(181), dont think that will leave me with a seat. Going for a retake...

With around 24 attempts, you can expect your %ile to be somewhere near 75%ile.
That's why I told you to wait till CAT Results.
If you want to take some chance believing that %ile might cross 80, you can apply to
FORE IB
NIRMA
There are many other colleges which will have application window open after CAT Results as well. So you can apply to those colleges if at all doing MBA is a compulsion this year itself.
@saarthakoramaYou can expect a %tile of 90+. Consider applying to IMI, IMT, MFC/MBE, MIB/MHROD, FORE, LBSIM, UBS, NIRMA etc. which includes few as backup options also.
After results are declared you can look out for 1-2 IITs, BIM-T, KJSOM, TAPMI, DSM-DTU etc.
@somuverma Around 85-90 %tile. Not sure of institutes because I'm not acquainted with how it works in reservation!! @avinashkrjha may be able to guide you better. But one thing, private institutes will not be having reservation category so IMI, IMT etc. will be out of question.
Disclaimer: Depends on CAT difficulty, day, slot etc. also. So this is just an approximate idea to help you decide which institutes you can target/apply. This may vary at best by +/- 5%tile!! So choose the institutes to apply accordingly.
@avisilent Around 80-85%tile. Consider applying to IMI, FORE, LBSIM, NIRMA, UBS, IFMR etc.
After results you can look out for BIM T, TAPMI, DSM-DTU etc.

Hi guys, My CAT went this way: Quants - 19 attempts with at least 16/17 right Verbal - 23 attempts with at least 19/20 right (hopefully!) Any idea what would be my approx percentile based on the trend? Thanks in Advance!
