[2023] Which B-Schools should you apply to?

@ajaygovindg oh my so sorry....well thanks for the info boss..could u pls list name of some colleges with low fee...

Hi Guys,

SP Jain will give only profile based calls?????????????or it will call the candidates who get more than 95%?
@abhi0712 UBS FMS JBIMS.... and IIT D,K,M
@ajaygovindg

i agree with you. But if look at my question, its very specific. I am not just asking what all colleges to apply, i was asking something different. I think i have done some homework, but unable to decide whether those colleges are Good for a person earning 3.7 lpa or i should restrict myself to top 30.

Again i understand that the term "Good" is relative, but nothing wrong in knowing the experts' opinion.

@Tony12 SPJain gives both profile based and percentile based calls. The minimum cut off for calls hover around 85 percentile though its only qualifying percentile and various factors come into play during final shortlisting. All the best :)
@AbhiOfficial This call is something which you have to take by proper introspection. We have seen a healthy presence of work experience candidates in institutions like TAPMI, LIBA, FORE etc. With your 30 months of work ex. these would definitely be worth considerations. However, if you feel that you want to have the cream profiles at the end of your MBA, then you should not lose sight from anything below top 20. So, I would request you to understand what exactly are your objectives and where do you wish to see yourself in the next 5 years and if these institutes would provide you the platform to reach there. If yes, then apply to them else keep your efforts on till you hit the top league. All the best :)

Even if a college has some weightage for work-ex, that doesn't mean Freshers can't make it to that college.

e.g, GIM gives 10% weightage to work-ex. But we have 30% freshers in both the batches.

So, don't be worried regarding this. Focus on what is in your hands. And that is scoring high in CAT/XAT/SNAP etc and performing well in GD/PI..

All the Best.. :)

Apply to

IMT
XIMB
FORE
LBS
UBS
NIRMA
MIB/MHROD

@AbhiOfficial Dude no one is an expert here!! Maybe its the 2 things that MBA has taught us to be - Googling & Confident!!
Anyways, I had a similar profile (29months work exp) like you when I joined for MBA 2 years back. What I understand from personal experience and hearing from others in many institutes like TAPMI, LBSIM, FORE etc. is, if you join any Tier II institute with such a work exp and then looking to move into something completely different from IT, like Sales, Operations, HR etc. then majority end up gaining not much monetarily, say around 5-7lakhs and a lucky few (1-5 people!) with package above that depending on the firm visiting. So check out the type of firms visiting the campus to know better. And of course obviously profile-wise it is very good. The brands are also pretty good to start off with - like UB Group, TATA Motors etc. Job posting might be in remote locations (UB-Ops profile) or hometowns (TATA Motors-Marketing).

If you're moving back into an IT/Technology firm itself then you stand to gain monetarily also (7lakhs+ package). But again depending on the profile being offered and the firm. Pre-Sales, Business Analyst etc. are some profiles offered. PM me if you would like to know more. But I guess this will help you take a decision.

The above views MAY be subjective, so do some further research, speak to seniors in those institutes to understand better and take a final call! :cheerio:
@abhi0712 If you check the individual threads of the institutes you are looking to target, or the institute website itself, you'll find the weightages clearly defined. And mostly its around 8-15%, which is not much and being a fresher you can compensate for it through your CAT & GD-PI score. So like avinash has mentioned above, focus on what is in hand and apply to institutes irrespective of whether they give weightage to work exp or not.

Moreover almost all institutes have an objective to build a DIVERSE batch. Diverse in terms of freshers & work exp, gender, industry of work exp, grad background etc. So all the more reasons to not worry about it!
