ISB has recently started Young Leaders Programme (YLP)
http://www.isb.edu/PGP/YLP.Shtml
Students in penultimate year of undergrad study ll be given admission but they need to join ISB after 2 years of work exp. (just like HBS 2+2 )
My question is how far a 1 year MBA ll help for those with only 2 yrs of work exp.

Thank you!!

Take the GMAT and get an obscenely high score to start with

BSchools are not rigid about the kind of experience as long as you have productively utilized your time, and have shown leadership experience through various roles & responsibilities, as well as, through steep career progression. So don't worry about this at all! Infact *most* roles, except in call-centers and door-to-door marketing, don't involve direct customer interaction from day 1.

Hey Consultants
Just see my profile here
I am working as a trader/research analyst in financial markets since 2 yrs with a prop trading firm in India.
I am planning to apply in 2013. Wud give CFA L1 this december and hopefully complete it by 2013.
As I have 2 years to go. Do you think working a little on social service etc , just part time, can help the profile ? Though it won't ever become a major part of my profile.
How much GMAT should I target to get in Stern/Columbia types ? And is it practically possible to get in "stern and types" for an average guy with CFA, arnd 700+ GMAT and 4yrs fin work ex ? Which schools can I target if not stern n types ?
Scores:
10th - 85 %
12th - 80%
GPA - 7.8/10
extracurric - Avg

Hey :)

Please evaluate my
Age - 23, Female
Work Ex :1yr 9 months as of today
Field: Telecom
BTech ECE NIT CGPA7.3
Xth 87.5%, XII - 85%.
GMAT 720(Q48 V41) ----> Will my low percentile in Quants be an issue?

Extra curriculars : Below average
What are my chances? Which schools should I apply to?

I perhaps missed this post earlier - got a PM reminding me of my duties as a Consultant Thanks. This is a good example - remind Sameer/me if your post is hidden beyond the current page AND we have answered queries of posts made AFTER yours.

Based on the limited info here (and in the PM):

1. Decent numbers (GMAT, experience, GPA-school)

2. Great story about work-exp

3. Female applicant

I think you have a shot at any of the top schools. However it will depend a LOT (almost entirely) on how well you are able to articulate your story. That is pretty much the make or break in your case.

Hi sir ....
I am akhil....
I have just completed my bachelors in business administration(bba)-awaiting final semester results.

GMAT-720
GPA-3.4/4

Extracurricular s:

  1. Captain of the national level table tennis gold medal winning team Karnataka(represented Karnataka for 8 yrs).
  2. Was ranked India no 6 in the junior category.
  3. 2 gold medals,3 silver medals and 1 bronze at national school games.
  4. Varsity table tennis team captain.
  5. Member toastmasters international.
  6. Event manager for an international fest organized at our university.

I am particularly interested in corporate strategy/strategic consulting.
with 3 years of work experience, what are my chances of getting into top b-schools such as Wharton, Harvard, NYU stern etc...

my queries are as follows:

  1. are the EC`s good enough??
  2. GPA??
  3. GMAT score??
  4. Am i able to exhibit leadership qualities and the ability to work in teams??
  5. what kind of a job profile would help me get through??

thank you...
Hello sir,
I am a newbie in Pagalguy, so redirect me if needed.

I Have completed Btech in Computer science with
GPA 7.6/10
2 Years WorkEx
Won some awards in college fr Kabaddi and football
Lea of the college cultural Team.

I have Some Questions About MBA abroad..
1. What is the Approximate Cost (course fee) ?
2 Can i get any Scholarship? if yes where and how ?
3. I hv heard that Foreign B schools do not offer good placement assistantce like the Indian B schools, Is it correct ?
4. Anything else that regarding admission and admission procedure.
Now we are getting somewhere, my friend.

Jadavpur...nice, promotions...better, awards...good work. In your stories wala hat, hopefully you've got some teamwork, leadership etc.

But to get back to your orig query about GMAT for ISB, get over 700 (720+ would be great).

Would've also helped to know what your post-MBA plans are. We've noticed that this is a problem area with most guys who come to us (specially reapplicants). ISB likes their candidates to have ample clarity of thought when it comes to this aspect.

So do some solid homework on that part before you submit your application.

Whoaa! Easy there tiger - you are way ahead. I could have said take GMAT but you have done that as well. So nothing much. Your GMAT, GPA etc are all perfect.

Focus on your career and try to do something (a) more than your role and responsibility - increase your circle of influence (b) try to get promoted faster than your peers.

The way I see it if you are a "true" leader you don't need to be told (a) and (b). That should happen naturally. So just be yourself and do well in whatever you chose - you should do good!

Also use this time to research about bschools, and about MBA programs in general. Try talking to alums, to people who have "been there and done that". Just a caveat - don't be consumed by this and enjoy your life. There is more to it than an MBA

Cheers,

Thank you sir :D
The guidance is invaluable.Thank you 😁

Hi,

Great thread this. I want to apply to an MBA program and I wanted to get my profile evaluated. My problem is that my work ex is in different functions and I am sceptical about how adcoms look at such a thing. I have worked in logistics, sales and now in aviation and would like to stay in the SCM/Ops side post MBA as well. Here is my profile

Xth - 80%
XIIth - 78%
BE - Manufacturing engineering - 65%
MSc - Engineering Business Management- Warwick university, UK
GMAT (practice only) - 700
Ex Curriculars - pretty decent

I was working with a Japanese MNC in the UK for 2.5 years (Total UK work experience 4 years)

Currently, I am working with Indian Oil Skytanking as a Duty manager at the T-3 airport in New Delhi. Its a very responsible job and highly pressurized job and I have around 60-70 officers under me.

I have two real questions

1) Will I be at a disadvantage due to my mixed work ex?

2) Which schools should I practically choose based on my profile ?

Thanks

:

One good thing (among the many that I see) about your profile is that all three areas of your work-ex have been in unconventional areas, vis-a-vis the other typical Indian profiles that Adcoms will get on their table.

The challenge for you is to come up with a storyline that connects all the dots and yet makes it sound like one logical story, rather than independent short stories that are completely de-linked from each other.

The latter will give rise to more questions about what you were really looking for when you made those transitions. Was it all linked to one grand plan that you had in mind?

The former approach will work to your advantage as it'll show that you are clear in your mind about what direction your career should take.

Your other components are quite good. Just keep in mind the points listed above and figure out a way to weave all the threads into one strong application.

Good luck.

does it sound insane to choose kjsom IB over NM-HR?

Hi Folks,

My profile is as below

Academics

1.BE(Electrical and Electronics) Anna University-77%
2.GMAT-690

Work Experience:
Currently 2.5 yrs in IT( will be around 4 by the time I join in 2012)

Role:QA and Testing

Have got All the usual stuff like Appreciations, awards and even a promo recently

Extra Curricular:
Nothing that would make a person go 'Wow' but surely some points to write about such as event organization, music and church leadership

Post MBA Goals:
This is the hard part . I am planning the usual IT to Finance transition,
However I dont want to limit my options to Finance and would like to explore areas such as IT Consulting as well. Therefore I feel a 2 year program would be the best for me

Queries:
1.Bearing in mind my profile , what schools would you recommend ? Will this list significantly widen or improve if I can improve my GMAT score by about 40-50 points?( a bit frustrated taking up the exam again )

2.Do you think I should defer my MBA to 2013 for a better chance at the good schools? There are some good onsite opportunities coming my way. However just a bit scared whether it will become too late in the day to make a complete career switch

hey,

i guess queries other than CAT or GMAT will also be entertained here... >

i am the cliche, engineer with 16 months work-ex in IT.
and i want to change my carrer track to international relations. for that i am not able to find a course or institute in India so far.

Learnt about "Erasmus Mundus" last year. But dont have sufficient knowledge about it yet.

All i know is that Delhi unversity is a partner university for certain courses, but i couldnot find a contact there to find more about it.
As i am not an enrolled student now, can i pursue the same.

looking forward to a nice and long reply :P,
