I agree that you have excellent extra curricular activities. But you have not mentioned anything about work. What are your key achievements there? How has your career progressed in past two and a half years?
I would say your GMAT score is on the lower side for the b-schools on your target list , and it would be good if you can retake it before some of your R2 deadlines.
If you intend applying with this score, do ensure that your application presents a balanced view of your extra-curricular and work related achievements. Applicants tend to skew on one side (
just as your post talks only about ECs), so don't make that mistake.

Could you please let me know my chances of making it through
a good school? Considering my not so good GMAT what universities could I target?
Indian, did my engineering in Electronics from one of the best college in India (PEC Chandigarh) 64.04%
10th: 80% ICSE
12th: 78% CBSE
Gmat: 680 (Quant 48, Verbal 34, AWA 5, IR 8) gave it after
15 days of prep. Wish to give it again but short of time.
Lost my father and the only breadwinner of the family when I was twelve 12.
Assisted my mother with her startup (Facilities Management Company) and by the time I had completed my engineering I had invested 6+ years in the growth of the business. I was involved in almost all of the aspects and had to carefully divide time between my education and business. The team then stood at 150+ employees.
I got a very unique chance to get some corporate experience. I worked with General Dynamics (One of the Biggest Defense Conglomerates in USA) as Manager sales for 3 and half years. Had a techno commercial profile. Involved in Account management and Sales as well as R&D; and Prototyping. Supervised a team of 5 to 8 people including Germans, British and Americans. Successful in implementing many important projects for the Indian military.
I quit the company and returned to the family business. Our team now stands at 200+ directly of indirectly reporting to me. By the time I would join college I would have had 5 years of experience.
I have a failed startup to add to the list of experiences.
I wish to do mba to gain knowledge further expand my line of business at a national level and beyond and also include in the portfolio, Technology Assisted Services.
For my co-curriculars:
State level medals in tennis and swimming.
Various medals in Inter college athletics.
Part time modeling for fashion websites.
Been a part of NSS (National Service Scheme) and Rotaract
for 3 years.
Regular Blood donor
Regularly contribute towards and organize langars at
Gurudwaras.
and i forgot to mention
Hello Consultants,
Please let me know my query about financing the MBA.
B School total cost - 50 lakh INR
Bank Loan - 20 lakh INR
Remaining 30 Lakh INR assuming no scholarships are provided. So only hard cash is the way out.
Please let me know whether it's region specific as according to my knowledge in US and Canada most of the times you need a cosigner ( a person has to take loan on behalf of you). Does this apply to any other reason.
I am just starting to investigate on my financing of MBA, so a reply is greatly appreciated.
Rahul, very late reply at my end- I hope it still helps you. The best way to figure this out will be to talk to current students and recent alumni. Since the market situation has changed a lot in the past 3-4 years, they would be the best people to guide you.
Certain things that you can talk to them about are:
1. employability - what are the recruitment figures - in general, for Indians? Are Indians finding jobs before their visas lapse?
2. Career services - how effective are they in facilitating your job search?
3. Academic- how good are they for your career interests (so try talking to students who are following a career path similar to yours.) What about supporting activities like Clubs/ events/ industry connections?
4. environment and culture.
Hope this helps.
It would be nice if you put up what you find out on this thread, for the benefit of other candidates.

I know the profile is not that strong so please tell accordingly
If you are already doing a PG in Financial management, why would you need another MS Finance, which is typically done with 0-2 years of work experience?

You have an interesting profile and I would urge you to put up a really solid application to see your chances through.
If you helped your mom grow the business from one level to the other, then I am sure you would have quite a many leadership stories to come up with.
One thing that bothers me - and more so, because of lack of information here - that you had a failed startup. Does that signify that you had a marginal role in the family business and that you were not able to translate your learnings here into your new business?
Your ECAs sound impressive.
Regarding your choice of b-schools I think you should apply to 3-4 of them (R2 is less than a month away, and you may not mange more)Consider b-schools from top 10-30 as per the BW rankings.
I am not able to understand the significance of your certifications in your profession

Some b-schools will also allow you to do a graduate assistantship in second year, which will help you earn a weekly stipend.
Also, the summer internship provides a big ease off on the loan burden.
If you are planning to do an MBA a couple of years later, its good that you are already staring to think about it. So my advice to you is : start saving for the rough days :)
