Some amount was lent at 6% p.a Simple Interest. After 1 year, Rs 6800 is repaid and the rest of the amt. is repaid at 5% p.a. If the 2nd year's interest is 11/20 of the first year's interest, find the amount of money that was lent out initially ?
Although I have the solution with me which goes as follows: Let principal be P Interest for 1st year= p*6/100. After 1 year, new amount = p+6p/100-6800 Interest on it for 1 year= (1.06p-6800)*5/100 And the rest is pretty easy....
My doubt is why did we add first year's interest while calculating the principal money for the 2nd year (since we are dealing with S.I and not C.I) , i.e. why did we add 6p/100 in 2nd year's principal ? Shouldn't the principal for 2nd year be just p-6800 ??
