Hi Guys,
I have been consistently scoring 140s in aimcats and simcats. But I am unable to convert those into 160s and above.
Section wise: I have a good accuracy as well as attempts in quant, in DILR have a really good accuracy, but my attempts are on lower side. In VARC attempts are high but accuracy is low and its my weakest link. Help required please, as this is my third attempt in CAT. Previously I have scored 97%+ twice, I don't want to linger in the same range again

Following are the tips to prepare for CAT that you may find useful-
1. Diagnosis
a. Write a free mock CAT from bfactory
b. Analyze your sectional scores and assess what are the areas you need to work on. Also, note your strong areas.
c. Make the listing of the strengths and weaknesses in an excel or notebook
d. Write one more mock and again repeat step b and c
2. Basic building
a. For VA: Irrespective of your score, you have to build the reading habit. We need to reach a level where we can read The Hindu or The New York Times or The Guardian editorial easily without getting bored.
i. If you are comfortable reading editorials then you need to start with something you like. You can begin with kids story, sports novel, sports editorials, fiction. But gradually you need to diversify your reading. Move to biographies, memoirs, history, realism etc.
b. For QA: Brushup your basics by solving class 7th to class 10th maths book. Make sure you know solving process of solving all the kinds of problems. Make a list of problem types in a notebook which you have learned.
c. For DI/LR: CAT DI/LR is totally different from what we have studied in our curriculum in school. To build the basics, I would suggest you solve as many puzzles as possible. There is no need to solve puzzles which require to you think out of the box. Solve puzzles where structured thinking is required. You can play games like Kakuro to learn possibility creation and eliminating the possibilities.
o Complete basics will make sure that you are at least 75 percentile level now.
1. CAT Method Learning: Learning fundamentals is not enough to become better the rest. You need to learn different types of methods required to solve questions.
a. For VA, I will suggest you solve Amazon.in: Rahul Anand, Kamlesh Chauhan: Books. This book is enough to prepare for CAT Reading Comprehension solving.
b. For QA and DI/LR: I would suggest joining coaching classes from where you can learn the different methods to learn the concepts. If you are in Delhi/Ranchi, you can join Bfactory offline coaching else you can opt for Bfactoryonline classes. We at Bfactory, focus on making sure that students learn different methods to solve a single question.
c. For DI/LR: Most of the coaching institutes still use the same teaching pattern despite the change in DI/LR pattern change. We at Bfactory, teach exactly what needs to be done to score well in CAT.
d. Learning CAT methods will catapult you to at least 90 percentile level.
2. All concept Revision and solving topic tests: It is very important to revise everything you have learned on a periodic basis. Revise all the methods you have learned in the last 10 months. Solving all the topic tests will make you an expert in each of the topics. Bfactory provides topics with Level 1,2 and 3 for all the topics in its portal.
a. If you have followed the schedule till now, you should be at at least 95 percentile now. The next 8 months are to be dedicated to reaching 99+ percentile level.
3. Mock test practice and CAT previous years papers: Write one mock test per week and in addition solve CAT previous years papers. Analyze your mock test performance and understand the improvement areas. Also, work on your selection during the exam. Solving CAT previous years papers will make you an expert. You would be able to pick all the easy and medium level questions easily now.
a. You should be at 97–98 percentile level now. Bfactory assigns IIMA alumnus mentor who will guide you on how to improve your score after reaching a certain level.
