Cat 2017- Dilr was on insane level. Cat 2018- Quant was rocket. Cat 2019- Varc took a rollercoaster ride. Since last 3 years there is one section which plays a decider game. What are your insights for the Cat 2020.

Anyone plz suggest some good source (CAT level) for DILR questions. Have solved TIME package & Arun sharma books. PS - This will be my 2nd attempt. Have scored 96%ile in DILR (CAT 19). I want to go for 99.5+ile this time in DILR.
I had many misconceptions during my preparation, so below I have written about what I thought and how they actually turned out.
This is what I learned during my journey from CAT 2019 (99.10%) to Planet-I.
1- PAPs (Past Academic Performance)-
My thought-
Yep, while applying it is actually “Paap”. I had a 6.56 CGPA in engineering. MBA/higher studies needs great acads and failing those you have no chance.
I spent days in evaluation of criteria and past call data, surfing all websites which offered the tentative percentile for the call.
What I discovered-
There is a college for every kind of profile. In my case (9/9/6) I had IIM C,I and fms. In your case it will be different. The amount of effort required in CAT might be greater but there is a institute for you always. So leave this silly worry and give your best. Always doubting and asking “call ke liye kitna lagega” is useless. “Jitna lagega utna hi laoge kya? “ so leave it and give your best.
2- CAT not possible while working
My thought-
My job was 8am to 8pm with one weekly off. CAT will have to wait, or I will have to quit
What I discovered-
Almost 2 hours of my work involved travel, so Editorials, Parajumble were done on commute. Also you can revise Quant formulas or watch solutions of LRDI sets you failed to do.
3- CAT prep needs money and resources
My thought-
I was in Barmer, Rajasthan. Coaching classes toh bhool hi jao and I didn’t want to invest 20k in online classes as many sessions were interfereing with my job hours.
What I discovered-
I spent just 1900 Rs for cat form and 700 Rs for Cracku mocks.
Quants- Arun sharma (all tricks and Level 1& 2 sums. “ALL is the key”)
LRDI- Screenshots of Elitesgrid questions. Used to watch solutions on travel.
VARC- 1000 RC, 99RC and editorial of the hindu. “Daily editorial app” in my phone. Again using the commute.
I had 20 mocks from cracku. After I felt my prep was coming to an end I gave 5 of them and past year papers from 2016-2018 all sets.
4- Interviews are difficult
My thought-
Interviewers really like to grill candidates and find faults in their profile so be prepared like a witness to be grilled by the opposing lawyer.
What I discovered-
My new IIM as well as IIM I interviews were more of a conversation. Not that they didn’t ask any questions, there was cross questioning (a lot believe me), but they are there to select and not to reject, so answering question logically and even saying “Sir, I don’t know” politely will never harm your chances
Fun Fact-
I had amazing interview and WAT for New IIM and have only converted 2.
IIM I interview had many “Sir, I don’t know” but got converted in first list.
5- Do read AIWTSAC of PG legends. That will really motivate you. It removed fear of failure from my mind as I knew that there so many like me out there working towards a common goal and having the same experiences in life.
In the end the journey is not a cake walk but-
“India da coat pana hai, pana hai india da coat, Aiwayi? Are aiwayi nai milata india da coat, Kamana padta hai, mehnat karni padti hai uske liye, daudna padta hai, uske layak bana padta hai”
-Bhaag Milkha Bhaag
The same is true for IIM seat. Give your best, leave behind all the apprehension and just do it.
Well these are the confusions I had. Comment any misconceptions you have and feel free to reach to me in case you have any doubts.
I am a General Engineer Male with Acads 10/12/B.E. as 79.8/72.2/66.2 with work exp. of 9 months. How much Cat score is necessary to convert IIM Shillong/Udaipur/Raipur/Ranchi/Rohtak. IF I am targeting these only.
Hello I am preparing for ( CAT 2020 & XAT 2021) and wanted to know good books for vocabulary building other than Norman Lewis as I have already completed it Also I want to know about different approach for vocab study.
Thank You.
Is there any group (.../telegram) of students repeating this year with around 95 or higher percentile in last attempt? If not, we should make one. DM me
