If you have watched Dear Zindagi, you would know the story of the person who decided to climb Mount Everest without any preparation and succumbed to the adverse conditions there (If you haven't, stop reading and watch it first). My version isn't much different, only that I had another life.

CAT 2014: 99.04 - hoards of calls, no decent converts. I felt aghast, who wouldn't?

One year on, I wrote CAT again and scored a good percentile (99.97). But I knew that it was just job well begun - half done, as they say. It was time to learn from the prior failures and prepare in earnest to scale the peak everyone so much covets.

This phase is quite challenging, for most, if not all. It is all about the mind. That is where you win or lose the game. Highly motivated individuals vie with you for a small piece of the pie. Every small improvement counts. A well-rounded and polished individual would naturally hold an edge, and this holds true in the campus as well.

So let's get to basics. The process for most IIMs has two or three of Group Discussions, Written Ability Test, and Personal Interviews.

Group Discussions test your ability to think on your feet and communicate it verbally. The moderators look at your body language, voice modulation and the content of your speech.

Written Ability Test judge you on your ability to think, general knowledge (depends on topic), the lucidity with which you can express your opinion in a written form with some impetus on the grammar as well.

Personal Interviews are ones that make or break the deal. Think of Will Smith's interview in The Pursuit of Happiness. Be honest and if you do not know an answer just admit it and move on. Steer the interview in the direction you want to take it into- your form gives enough clues to the interviewer what questions to ask, so carefully filling it is very important. Come across as pleasant, and that's about it. No great mantra of success- just that getting perfection in doing this is a tough nut to crack on its own.

For me, a great part of the journey was made easier by the presence of Partha Sir of Backspace Consulting as the mentor who made all the steps pretty easy with a raft of Group Discussions, WATs, and PIs. But what was unique was the other activities: JAM sessions, Parliamentary debates, Mirror, etc. which helped me understand myself better and that gives you a sizable advantage over the field.

Come the interview day for IIM Calcutta; I managed to do well in both Written Ability Test and the Personal Interview, and at the time of writing, this is in my third term as a JOKAR.

PS: By that time I joined IIM Calcutta, I had worked 10 months in Backspace. However, my opinions are my own.

Still no email from Indore ..Did everyone get it?

Which institute out of Symbiosis (SIBM & SCMHRD), NMIMS, IIM Shillong and IIFT would be willing to reschedule interview dates in case of a clash?

I guess they have a common mail for iim mumbai and indore. The sender is iim pgp mumbai admission- iim indore. And the first line of the context says you have been selected for the next round of selection process of iim indore's pgp at indore.

In form also there is an option 'tick relevant fields' shortlisted for () indore ()mumbai

What are my chances of getting a call from any BLACKY IIMs and IIT D, NITIE, MDI Gurgaon? Are there any other good colleges I should look for?

Is it worth it to pay 5k for the TIME GD/PI classes even when one doesn't have any major B-school calls yet? I am expecting calls from NMIMS Bang/Hyd and XLRI HRM, XIMB and IMT - G.

(Depends on XAT Cut offs this year)ย

Any suggestions, please?

Hi i jsut wanted to know that if I've got a call from IIM Indore, will i not be allowed to take the interview for the common admission process(CAP) ย of new IIMs organised by IIM Rohtak?SO,will my selection at new IIMs also depend on my IIM Indore interview :/ ?

Does one need to pay for TIME's watpi program if he is TIME test series student and has calls from old IIMs?
