Hello guys,Ā

With just 13 days to go for D-Day, we go through uncertainty, nervousness, insecurity and many other emotions.Ā I have gone through the same last year and made it to one of the reputed IIMs. Here I am sharing with you my strategy in the last phase of preparation and also answer some common questions. I hope you find it usefulĀ

Last phase strategy:Ā

For quant, focus more on revising than grasping newer concepts (Hoping tht u hav covered well). Many people make the mistake of covering newer areas till last day. Covering a chapter takes only few hours, but mastering a chapter takes multiple days. Surface knowledge about a topic will lead to vicious trap wherein you feel u can calculate the answer bt end up being stuck, and you just can’t let it go because you ā€œfeel’ you can get the answer. Thus wasting precious time. Hence master strong areas and move towards weaker only after that. Ā

For DI and logic practice is the only key. But avoid studying it for longer hours in a stretch. The longer time you spend with the numbers, more tiresome it will be for the brain. So scatter the study throughout the day. e.g. give 2 hrs in the mrng and 1-2 in the evening. But do it daily without fail and soon you will be capable enough to understand and identify expected questions just by looking at the data.Ā

On the contrary, English should be studied for more time at a stretch. English is just the medium to understand the content so treat it as such. Don’t focus too much on vocab if you can grasp the meaning of sentence anyway. CAT doesn’t check your vocab but your understanding of the content. So in the last week read as much as you can of various subjects. History, polity, philosophy, science, leave no subject unturned. Read with a sense of urgency and you will soon grasp its meaning even if you don’t know a particular word. I found articles from ā€œThe Hinduā€ much useful for RC. Ā Treat parajumble type questions as logical questions as they are solved with 80% clues and 20% feel about language. And practice.Ā

Fantastic Mocks and how to analyse them. Mocks are very powerful tool to increase your performance but many people don’t know how to proceed with them. There are many mocks available in the market and their choice entirely depends on where one stands in her preparation. If you have covered the syllabus fairly well and in need of practice then go for mocks with fair difficulty level. But if you are expert and covered the syllabus amazingly well, then move towards difficult mocks. I personally found difficult mocks little demotivating but it’s entirely your choice.Ā

Solve 1-2 mocks every day religious for the next 10 days, followed by analysis. In analysis mark the wrong questions. For English find out the topic of RC where the questions got wrong and read more about that topic. Same goes for quant and DI. Prepare a table and mark the topics tht u r getting wrong answers for. Soon you will find your strong and weak areas. Work on it. Analysing mocks is the most boring part but it pays off. If you are giving TIME mocks, add 15-20 %iles more to your expected %iles. If giving CL, add 3-5%ile more to it. But never get disheartened because nobody knows what will be presented before you at the time of exam. I know people who were poor performers in the mocks but in the main exam, they performed exceedingly well. Ā

So pull up your socks for that one final blow. You can yet, turn the tables. Ā

Will see you around next year.Ā

ALL THE BEST.Ā
