"Ram and shyam start walking at 12 noon from points A and B respectively towards points B and A respectively t constant but different speeds. They meet at 4 PM. If Ram takes 6 hours more to reach pt B than the time taken by shyam to reach pt A , what time does shyam reach point A?" I could solve this by forming two equations which game me another quadratic equation in variable 'time'. But it was tedious and took me roughly more than 3 minutes. I want to know what method they have used to solve this question in like 1 or 2 steps. Is this any formula or something?

An escalator is moving downwards with the speed of 4 steps per minute. A person takes 6 minutes less to get down if he is coming down on the moving escalator as compared to when he comes down via the stationary escalator. Another person takes 6 minutes more to get up if he is going up on the moving escalator as compared to when he goes up via the stationary escalator. If they start together from the top and the bottom respectively, they meet after 4 minutes on the moving escalator. How many steps are there in the escalator?
