Its not at all necessary to go for coaching. Most people just do self prep. If you can understand the concepts on your own dont go for coaching

For example; in sept/oct 2012; CFA will get permission and announce centres in India.
Wasn't L1 exams held in India during Dec 2010,2011?

no need to go for coachings... CA guyz are just following the herd.. im a CA Finalist my self and dont do classes.... sheer waste of time and money.... an entity named google is present everywhere jus take his help....
as for CFA no coaching needed and n case of any prob just google it..

Sorry for acting so naive but why is it that CFA announces centers in India just a couple of months prior to the exam ? Please someone enlighten.
CFA Institute (CFAI... formerly AIMR) and ICFAI have a case running in the Indian courts on the validity and territorry of "CFA". ICFAI had obtained an injunction against AIMR to conduct CFA exams in India. So, legally, CFAI cannot "announce" the exams in India till the case is still running in the courts.
However, every six months, they make a representation to the court that since there "so many" Indian students, they should be given an interim relief to temporarily conduct the exam in India - for the benefit of the common student... to which the court says yes.
This has been going on for quite some time every June and December.
Hopefully CFAI and ICFAI can come to a mutual agreement in the near future and end the plight of the student.

Is it really necessary to have a passport even for registration for CFA L-1?? as it would take at least 2 months
