Hi All,
I'm working in a top Indian outsourcing company.. I have 3 yrs of work exp.. I have been thinking to switch to Finance for a while and have decided now to take up CFA exams. I have a few queries about the tests. It would be great if you could clear out my queries.
1. I'm not from Fin background. I haven't booked for June'13 slot yet. Is registration still open?
Is 5 months prep enough to clear out Level 1 exams ?
2. Is % that we get in each level of exams matters much? Like, a person gets great score can end up in a high paying job?
3. Is it ok to take CFA after 3 years in IT. Currently I'm getting a good salary package. I know that it would take min 3 years to clear all 3 levels. Comparing salarywise, after clearing all 3 levels in CFA, how much package can a person with Non Fin background can expect ? Coz 3 years from now, I will be in a even better package.
Thanks for you help in advance

Examples of this could be some restaurant business, the local kirana shop - where the business is indeed cash, but the payment for the inventory could be long credit.
How is this good for the company? - The company is holding very less current assets (meaning that more assets are now earning assets) and balanced with the fact that company has good credit coming in (meaning that almost free financing is happening). This is a good sign that the profitability of the company is good.
Is it always good for the company? - Not necessarily. Consider that if the cash portion is less rather than the debtor portion... Now when the time comes to pay the creditors, there is not enough liquidity to handle the crisis since it may be locked up in debtors or inventory.
What is the Balance? - It depends on the industry that the company is operating in and the players of the working capital cycle who interact with the company on day-to-day basis. Some companies are good to have CR >8 (shipping etc). Others try to balance at CR = 2-3 and still others play it on the edge around 1. Balance and WC mgmt is critical.

@ Tonymba.. Firstly, thanks for your reply! A senior of mine has given CFA but he says its futile for people who do not have relevant experience.
I have supported RMS (Risk Managment Systems) for Deutsche Bank (CIB) in TCS.
Now in Societe Generale(SGCIB) supporting Accounting applications.
Do you think the work that I do now, wil be considered as relevant experience?
He is right. If you do not have a commerce background. Just a CFA without MBA won't help you change careers so easily.
hey all, there is a free seminar happening on CFA course. People who are still in confusion whether to take up this course or not, or would this course help them in their future career or any such kind of doubts can be cleared if you can attend this seminar.
