CFA level 2 June 2011

Hi

I am currently pursuing Executive MBA(PGPEX) from IIMC.
I am 5 yr experienced in software Industry (Not in Finance Domain).

I am pursuing MBA in Finance but I am not interested in Investment banking, considering the hectic life of investment banker.
But I want to move to other finance jobs.
I cleared CFA Level I in June 2011 as my first step towards finance career.
Now I am thinking whether to write Level II or not.
What kind of finance jobs would be available for me with this qualification (applying off campus apart from campus placements) in Indian industry?
Would it help me in off campus placements to write level II by next yr(till then our placements would be over,so in off campus jobs)?

Thanks in advance.

plz help me here guyz.

what are the other payment options besides paying by credit card?

can we pay by debit cards?

has any on epayed by a debit card or directly by a bank account?

plz help

Debit card is not possible. i tried unsuccesfully. you can use check.
You can request them for net transfer. But for India i think credit card is best option.

Considering you are doing Executive MBA in Finance and have professional experience in other area (software) than Finance, CFA as a professional 'add-on' will add a great value to your candidature in finance job market - whether in investment field or not. It is not necessary for a CFA to work only in strictly 'investment' (buy side or sell side) job as much as it is not limited for a CA to work in 'accounting' or a FRM only in pure 'risk management' area. Due to diverse nature of professional job roles and inter-disciplinary operational areas of most financing jobs and responsibilities no knowledge combination in specialized areas goes unnoticed in today's job market.
You must note that a
lthough three levels of CFA focus on different aspects namely, learning (LI) & application (LII) investment, applications for defining investment strategy and performing portfolio management (LIII) the main Body of Knowledge (as listed by the CFA Institute) is quite diverse, and is as follows:
I. Ethical and Professional Standards
II. Quantitative Methods
III. Economics
IV. Financial Reporting and Analysis
V. Corporate Finance
VI. Equity Investments
VII. Fixed Income
VIII. Derivatives
IX. Alternative Investments
X. Portfolio Management and Wealth Planning

Obviously the employers and the organization exploring market for 'right' candidates know it and give due value to it.
As a candidate 'specializing' in Finance you will find the knowledge and skill gained not only useful but also will widen your horizon leading to more options and choice at later stage as neither your professional career will end with the first campus placement after the current MBA nor there is any guarantee that tomorrow you won't think of joining investment related career , not necessarily purely investment job (according to analysis at CFAI site 30% of CFAs work in Consultancy, Government/Regulator, University/College, Research Firm). By the way, I came to know quite a few 'talented' Managers (direct recruit after MBA) joining RBI and some other Banking organization have reached GM/Director level very fast because of their CFA qualification.
My above thoughts are in three context in reference to your candidature and the job market - firstly you are doing Executive MBA in Finance and have professional experience in other area (software) than Finance (as compared to full-time regular MBA with experience in finance related area); secondly you have cleared Level 1 of CFA already; and finally your joining the current course proves that you are hard working and won't like your options in career selection to be limited to a narrow choice. CFA level 1 by itself does not have much value as compared to at least CFA level 2. For you it is not much difficult to do it , specially because the CFA Level2 is mostly an extension of the Level 1 areas and involve application of the knowledge base (though completing CFA in due course will be the best strategy).
So don't merely focus on campus placement gains after the MBA but take a long term view and optimum utilization of the qualifications you have and going to have after MBA. In fact taking up Level 2 in June 2012 may prove a big asset for your better placement, specially as you don't have finance related work experience.
All this is said, provided you are prepared to put in the extra effort, time and energy for it (which is easier said than done) in your current situation. But if done, rewards may be very high.
Also remember once in finance job your preferences may change sooner or later and more options you have then will be better (as circumstances, age and capacity to study and gain new qualification may not be sustained at current level for long). No doubt interest in the CFA is growing and that there is a significant benefit in terms of career growth and compensation for those who obtain it. The above thoughts are from my own experience and is not based on hypothetical assumptions. Hope it helps you.

Thx man.

I had tried Axis and Icici bann cards. but it was 1.5 year back during level 1 registration. both were visa card only. for net transfer you need to mail institute asking for their account details. sometimes they do allow net transfer. You can call their helpline also which is given on website.

AFAIK u cant pay from debit card.
You can try to pay by debit card, it should not accept the transction. if it does then obviously you can pay.

Hello friends,

I just cleared level 2. I had a hectic schedule, but still managed it due to Arifs videos. This guys videos are the best thing ever. You can finish a reading/chapter in half the time you would otherwise take if you watch his videos. Explains every concept beautifully. The videos area must have who dont have much time or those who do not want to spend much time unnecessarily. If you want the videos drop me an email at [email protected]

Hie guys can anyone help me out with should I self study for CFA L1 or do some classes? & if yes then which classes are the best in Mumbai?
