My purpose of CFA is to understand the finance concept very well. will it be helpful when I do MBA to understand the curriculam or When I sit in the camput placement CFA is added advandage for me? Also more importantly as I said before If I dont have basic rudiments of finance should I go for ICFAI CFA or AIMR? Kindly advise ...
i would like to know and help me in taking a decision about CFA and MBA because i am so confused between the both which i should take first, i am living in egypt and i have a bachelor degree in business administration with major in Accounting, after college i decided to change career and working in IT so i studied Database for 2 years, i thought that will help me more coz of my case ...i am a (wheelchair user) coz of car accident, finally after deep trying to get a job i am working now for 4 months in one of the biggest banks in Egypt but in the finance department as An (ALM OFFICER) and for sure i am still weak in the field of finance and trying to learn from work ...the main that i want to upgrade myself and be better and better so i thought about the cfa but all the people scaring me off and told me to wait because its not easy and so on, also there is some MBAs here in Egypt but not that great for sure like USA or UK.. The best one here as i thought is an MBA with conference with ( MAASTRICHT SCHOOL OF MANAGMENT in NETHERLAND) and another with(HERIOT WATT IN EDIENBRUGH) this is exist in Egypt... please i am waiting for your opinions if can i go and get the cfa with my experiance or better go and get the MBA first at least?
I know the same kind of post wud have been there in pg. But still my confusion is not clear. My Profile ------------- 1. Passed BE in 2006 , June. 2. Working with a leading MNC in IT .
Ambition ------- Establish myself in Finance sector.
Confusion ------------- 1. Should i go for CFA or MBA. Which one would be better for me ?
Hey, can anyone shed some light on how bschools abroad view CFA... I mean considering CFA and MBA Finance greatly overlap... if one's looking to do an MBA, does CFA act as a value add or as a deterrant.. (they may say: You're already a CFA, why you doing your MBA in Finance?)
Also, in that case, does it make sense to do an MBA in a different field, say marketing, in order to get the best of both worlds.. finance taken care of by the cfa degree (assuming you clear the 3 levels, that is)
Im in a serious dilemma over this issue. Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Ankur,
No Uni might say that "You're already a CFA, why you doing your MBA in Finance" because an MBA is much broader concept than CFA which only focuses on finance and capital markets. A certified financial analysis is a study of core finance activities which may not teach you management skills whereas in an MBA you may not study finance at the level which you can do it in your CFA studies. So they land into different genres. Anyways MBA can be viewed as a long term progressive study. You can complete your CFA, gain some good experience and boom - Go for MBA. :)

I have a naive question regrading my career plan. Right now I am working in a s/w MNC having 14 months work experience. Previous year I have cleared IIT Mumbai call for management course. But due to some family problem was unable to join. Right now it is very difficult to leave my job due to my family responsibility. So I am planning to take CFA and determined to clear three levels within 2012 june(may be too optimisitic). I have some certification of NSE in debts and derivative. I need to have suggestions from you. After completion of three levels if I pursue an executive MBA in finance will it be worthy? And do you think it is a rational career planning? please friends give me advice. I am little bit confused.
HII MY QUERIES 1.) how much does CFA exam cost. i mean registration and each level costs? 2.) what is the difficulty level of each level? (for eg. u can compare viz like clearing CFAlevel1 is equivalent to getting 90percentile in cat)
3.) if i clear level1 then for how much time it remains valid? any time limit within which i have to sit for cfa level2? 4.) how should i start prepartion of CAlevel 1 exam. i have not registred for june 2011. so will be iaming at dec2011 or june 2012. 5.) from where i can buy suitable notes in north region?
Hello puys! I have just recently come to know of the CFA course and have a few queries regarding the same. 1) Is it an added advantage for my MBA application? 2)Will it come in handy in case I pursue an MBA but not go into Finance? 3)In case I am unable to complete the course (considering the low passing percentage :P, will it be somewhat useful being at Level 1 or Level 2)
Pardon me if you find my questions a bit naive. Thanks in advance.
I am taking the liberty to assume that if you are reading this article on CFA vs MBA, then you are slightly confused about the right choices that you want to make. Please don't worry, you are not the only one here! - Even I got disoriented
