20%???

if the price of petrol increases by 25% and Rajesh intends to spend only 15% more on petrol, by how much % should he reduce the quantity of petrol that he buys?
is it 8%.i have done it by formulae,rate*consumption=expenditure

20% will be the answer

let income of B=100rs
then A=125
now
25/125*100=20%

let price be P
and expenditure=E
quantity=X

now P*E=X--------------1
now acc 2 given condition
1.25P*(X-k)=1.15E-------------2

solve 1 and 2 you will get the answer

After striking the floor , a balll rebounds to 4/5th of the height from which it has fallen. find the total distance it travelled before coming to rest if it has been gently dropped from a height of 120m.
a) 540 m
b) 960 m
c) 1080 m
b) 1120 m
it will be a GP
now
initially it will get down from a height of 120 m
now it will again go back to a height of 96 m{120*4/5}
then it will again go down 96 m
and so on

so
120+2(96)+2(96*4/5)+.....
hence it is an infinite GP
with r=4/5
so
2*{96/1-4/5}+120
solve it you will get the answer

@surajpandey reduction percentage question method, your way is more easier than book method which i was using.
M. Tyra method-
Owing to fall in price, there is saving of 25% on Rs. 60 i.e, 25% of 60 = Rs. 15
For this Rs. 15, a person purchase 2 dozen of bananas
Hence reduced price per kg = Rs. 15/2 = Rs 7.5
Original Price= 7.5 * 100 / (100-25) = Rs. 10
Drawback of Tyra method:- here lots of brain is used and in exam my brain doesn't work at all. so i always need simple one there.
thanks bro...i just try to use my way rather than someone else..
yeah the solution given by you is complicated.. it will even be difficult to understand 😛

same this with me...in exams nothing works then the way you know.. ;)

@surajpandey by the formule 100*100/100-x for reduction and 100*100/100+x for increase
by using this method we can find how much %or fraction more or less we can by
in this question 100*100/100-25=400/3 than 400/3-100=1/3
so 1/3 of original quantity we can buy more so 1/3=2 it means original quantity is 6kg and price is rs. 10
1/3=2" from where did you get this?

simple but complicated for those who have no idea.

let a=125rs
b=100

b compare to a( a is the base)

25/125*100= 20% answer

am i rght? please clarify cos i m overconfident in this question and my answers comes wrong most of the time.,.. :P

bhai..saachi batau...bahut confused rehta tha mein... and aur agar aaj bhi koi mujhe bole na ki nikal answer in this way....mujhe naani yaad aa jayegi..

suggestion to overcome difficulty in particular type of problem-

Book- Quantitative aptitude for CAT by Arun Sharma-
Unit- Percentages
Table 5.1

Bhai ye table ratt daal....jab kar lega na tab batana what you feel about such questions. I think then 10 seconds to read question and 2 seconds to know the sure shot answer. Within 12 seconds you going to get the answer for sure.

Thank you and like bhi tabhi karna...pehle yaad karke aao sab wo table...those who know and those who dont know.....
