Find the Mistakes, if any, and then rewrite them after correcting :

2. The students in my class are smarter than other classes.
3. John loves Tina more than Katy.
4. Between the two of them, his idea is the best.
5. John encouraged Jerry to start a pest control business because he felt that the residents of the city would be willing to pay for the same.one request to you
Answers : Correct ones :
1. After the typhoon, the citizens of the county were left without food, without power, and with huge bills for reconstructing their houses.
OR
After the typhoon, the citizens of the county were left without food and power and with huge bills for reconstructing their houses.
REASON : When a preposition such as 'without' is used in front of only the first member of a series, it's taken to refer to all the members of the series. In the context of this sentence, this means that the citizens were left without food, without power, and without huge bills for reconstructing their houses. The last part obviously doesn't make sense and can be corrected by rewriting the sentence.
2. The students in my class are smarter than the students in other classes . OR The students in my class are smarter than those in other classes.
REASON :The sentence in the question was incorrect because it compares 'students' with 'classes'.
3. John loves Tina more than he does Katy .....OR.... John loves Tina more than Katy does.
REASON : The sentence in the question can be interpreted in two ways – either John loves Tina more than he loves Katy or John loves Tina more than Katy loves Tina.
4. Between the two of them, his idea is better. Reason : When comparing two things use the comparative form.
5. John encouraged Jerry to start a pest control business because John felt that the residents of the city would be willing to pay for the same.
REASON : 'HE' in the question creates ambiguity....Who does 'he' refer to, John or Jerry? ...so that's incorrect.
