Hi all,
i dunno if i am eligible to post on this thread ... but i wud defly like to share my views on the s/w industry .... i am working in TCS, Chennai .... in Telecom R & D ....
First of all for all the freshers, plz understand the difference between a s/w development company and a s/w services company .... TCS,INFY, Wipro n CTS are s/w services companies... in a services company you will never work on a cutting edge development project .... so if want you want to be a hard core techie ..... don't join these companies .... even if you are working in R & D , technically you will work as a system integrator or evaluate other products in market, n customize it to offer a solution to the customer ...
having said that.... all these companies do have some great projects to work on ..... otherwise they can't be at the top .... but as a fresher you will get mostly maintenace or testing ( pray that you dont get black box testing).....
but the flip side is onsite opps are max in these projects .... at the end of the day you win some , you lose some ....
reg the pay package ... i dont think you shud be worried abt it at this stage ..... jus work hard n get a gr8 workex for 2 yrs ..... n if you find your salary is still less shift the company .... in most companies by that time you wud be onsite ...
hope this helps ...
Cognizant ...not caritor
Hi
Let me share my view about my company i.e. CTS.
I have been working here since Sept 2004.
The best thing about this is the open environment and lack of rigidity.
Initially you do not have a say about your training technology and initial project.
Once you have proved your mettle in your project you have a say about Vericals and projects.
Onsite oppourtunities are good and the pay scale for freshers is 17k.
Salary revisions and growth depend on your performance and the project performance.
Hope this info helps.

It has increased as your friend has mentioned in around Sep 2005. But what you get on hand is 17k per month. You ll understand the pay structure once you join. Don't be too concerned about it right now.
The platform you get once you are in will be purely dependent on the requirement at that time. What HR says at the time of interview has very little relevance. They probably were checking whether you were ready to do any kind of work. However if there is a requirement in mainframes at the time of you coming out of training, then you ll have to work on mainframes. There is no particular kind of mainframe/testing project. There are all kinds of projects. But do remember that CTS is a services company and there will be no hardcore product development projects.
Does any1 has more genuine & latest infor regarding cognizant freshers payscale, platform, further education, career growth n other benefits???

Hi
Im Ashwin Rathore,a 2005 Computer Science graduate working for Applabs technologies in hyderabad as a Software Engineer. I've been selected by Cognizant through Freshers Offcampus recruitment conducted in hyderabad on Jan 29th.Im supposed to join Cognizant on March 6th at hyderabad with a compensation of 2,11608 per annum. I've a couple of friends who joined CTS as freshers through offcampus in the last six months and have been offered 2.4lpa. Can you please let me know why there is a difference between the two payscales?.One of them started wtih 2.1lpa but his salary was revised within 3 months to 2.4lpa. Isnt there any kind of norm on payscale for freshers??. Is there any chance that our salary would be revised to 2.4lpa or so??? and if so what could be the period of time.
Kindly clarify the same to the earliest possible extent.Hoping to hear from some1 very soon.
Ashwin Rathore.
can anyone throw light on pegasystems.hrd cts uses it.im a fresher put into pegasystems.
1.hows the scope for pega(i guess very few companies use it)?
2.is it possible to change to java(coz i was trained in java) in the near future?

Your friends who got 2.4L would have passed out in 2004.
Hi,
I want some information about CTS.
Apart from CTS being a brand name I have heard the following cons:
1.They haven't revised their salary structure last year...
2.One of my senior satrted in CTS with 2.4 lac but is still stuck at 2.6 lac after 2 years.
3.They don't give any choice of the area one would like to work
4.They have started mass recruitment which may affect the quality of work.
Are the above points true ?
Please give me an idea about the work environment and growth prospects as an individual
working for CTS.
Regards
Hi
All these points abt CTS are true.
Believe me telling from my experience in Cognizant.
CTS is very much like Infy and other software giants where all graduates are boarded in truck and dumped on software lands. You cannot expect much from these IT companies. But ek badhiya baat hain CTS ki onsite opportunities are very high. In my project 6 people have gone onsite in gap of 6 months, mera chance bhi aane wala hain!!
I am a fresher and will be joining CTS most probably in september.(But my aim is to crack CAT this november and get into a top B school):)
I have a doubt??: .It is listed on CTS website that in their Entry Level Training Program (ELTP) ,before we choose specialisation in core technology ,first we have to undergo an introductory course in Advanced Java, .Net, Mainframe, Client Server, Data warehousing, Software Testing, Application Maintenance, and IT IS.But what confuses me is that how can we be taught the basics of so many languages in just a month or two.??:
So will some kind hearted person PLEASE list the exact contents of this introductory course and
Foundation module,
Process & Quality module,
Life Skills - a Soft Skills module, conducted by PDC
( and if posssible please list the entire schedule of Entry Level Training Program (ELTP) in detail):)
And will someone please suggest what courses apart from C shall I go to in these three whole free months ,that I have till the joining date ,so that after joining I could peacefully prepare for CAT after office hours instead of trying to catch up with the performance level of my colleagues(who will most probably be more knowledgeable than me because of their IT/CS background or because they would have gone to computer courses like C++/JAVA/.NET during their college).
Also can I dare to join CTS with just knowledge about C and without any knowledge about other languages(like JAVA) ,and after joining spend all my time after office hours preparing for CAT and yet avoid being thrown out of CTS due to poor performance?:)
What I mean is can a non CS /IT gal ,with just knowledge about C, learn all the languages thrown at her in the training in just office hours(9.00-6.00) without putting any extra efforts after office hours, successfully?
Kindly give your much needed advice.:)

Regarding training at CTS you will be selectively trained on any one of the following depending upon the project requirement at the time when you start training.
1) Java Tech
2) Mainframe
3) Data Warehousing
4) Dot-net Tech
5) Testing tools
These five areas are the major areas where training is given(a few new ones might have been added lately...so please check with ppl who have newly joined).Apart from the core curriclum they will train you on quality procedures and a Personality development program for abt two days. So the whole ELTP will take about 2 months on an average. It would be difficult to prepare beforehand for any of this since the allocation and decision to put you into a particular tech will happen only after you join. So you can probably prepare for CAT till the time you join CTS and then concentrate on your training process. Again even if you are trained in one tech it is possible that you might be put into a project with an altogether different tech. The question of balancing work as well as CAT will depend on your flexibility as well as the project you are put into. All the best to you.
@Anitta
Don't worry so much about the training, it is more like college hangover. If you can get yoursled into testing, then things will be quite easy for you. Even maintenance project work will be less time taking.
Abhishek
