Did B Schools like IIM and other verify the Work experience

Can someone please provide me guidance over the work ex requirements and documentation.

I currently work (16 months ) for a proprietorship consulting firm which is not registered but is highly reputed in our work domain. My exposure and work profile has also been quiet decent with few international and national onsite projects in which I went as a consultant and provided training to the middle managers. Now as my organization is not registered, will it affect considering my work experience by the colleges.

Secondly what all documentation will be required. Will a certificate from my employer which declare my Designation, date of Joining and salary be enough. AS i wont be leaving my job so it wont be a relieving letter. Will they also ask for salary slips. We dont get salary slips but get cheques for which i havnt saved any copies but I have my form 16.

Please help me with this

it won't be an issue ... work ex will be considered !

This will be sufficient during GD/PI..... but once you convert the call and have been offered admission , you will be required to produce relieving letter / experience certificate.

One more query pertaining to that. I came to know that you need to prove your work ex. Especially if its from a small organization. Above my work certificate i have some invitation letters from our international clients issued in my name. Should i carry them for my interview as a proof of my international exposure as my firm wont write that on my certificate.

out of my 23 months of work ex, 5 months were in a small firm and i was never asked to give such proofs mentioning client etc ... and neither have i heard anyone being asked for same...

you will not need to produce proof for same.. they can judge the work done during the answers you give in interview 😃

dont worry ... no need to send so many things.. just the letter will suffice as proof and rest will be taken care by your answers !

cheers!

Well....any college looks for two things for considering work experience.
1)Salary slip
2)Experience letter issued by the HR of the company.
So if you're on a regular payroll of your father's firm, you wont have any problem. If you don't have this,I fear your work-ex would not be considered.

Hey all I have a query
I have managed my father's business(HOTEL) for 17 months after graduation. Now how can i show documents of my work-ex.

Get a letter from your father as he is the owner of the hotel stating your roles and responsibilities and duration for which you worked there with him. This letter can be used for showing work ex.

I have some query on work ex that counts for b school , it is told that"full time and paid " shall count
so does that mean jobs like teaching in schools (on contract) , content developer on retainership basis , i am mainly asking about jobs related to faculty kind of things , should count if they are full time and pay is decent (around 15 to 18k) by b schools?
many people say that only proper corporate work ex should count , though i cannot do much since i cannot change my profile now still want to know

Please check your PM... have replied to your PM in which you asked the same query.

Recently I got to know that everywhere including IIMs, Joining letter+salary slips will suffice as work-ex proof if we don't have relieving letter...

I got to hear this from my friend in IIM Kozhikode...

Varun, can you confirm this please....

Rules might differ slightly for few colleges 😃 but the mostly followed rule is:

Joining letter plus salary slips suffice as work ex proof initially ( generally during document verification time )but relieving letters are being asked to submit within a stipulated time by most of the colleges at one point of time or the other.

Hope this helps.

Hey would like to ask you all a query...Do the reupted B-schools just see the wrok experience or do they also see the place of work??I mean, does working in a better company add to your advantage in any way??

The better brand of the company always adds to your advantage ... however, the kind of profile and work you handled also plays a major role.

Cheers!

Hi Puys,
Right now i am working in a major software company which has 2 years of service bond. I joined the company last year in September and have thus have completed just 7 months in the company. Now, I want to leave the job and switch over to our family business. The problem however is that it wont be possible for me to get relieve letter from the current company.
I am planning to show my working in the family business as work experience right from the day i graduated i.e. July 2010 and mention no where that i ever worked in a software company.
Is it possible for me to do so? Would there be any issues i.e. would there be background verification, etc. by the college people?
i am eagerly waiting for your replies as i need to make some urgent decisions.

Regards,
Ajay.

HI..I am a chemical enginering grad ,batch 09,NIT durgapur.....currently I am working in a steel company.I am having a experince of 20 months.I am planning to take up CAT and other MBA entrance examinations this year...If a get calls from top teir institutions like IIMs or XlRI I will be able to show offer letter, joining letter, confirmation letter and salary slips of all the months that I have worked on..but unfortunately i cannot produce experience certificate or relieving letter coz our company is having a bond period of 4 years and the bond compensation amount will be whatever salary i'll be drawing through my working period and this is clearly mentioned in my offer letter. So if i need to produce the relieving certificate I need to compensate the company a huge amount.During admission if I produce all the above mentioned docs will it suffice for relieving/exp certi?please do help....
