DoMS,IIT Madras -Admission Queries 2008

hi seniors,
i need actual JMET paper for the year 2005,2004. Kindly post any link from which i can get them or if someone has them in pdf format that wid be just great. thank you.

Hi

Have a few queries regarding the Project and Operations(P&O;???) specialisation offered by DomS....i am planing to do an MDA in SCM or operations but when i came across this specialisation in DoMS...i was surprised as no insti offeres a projects & operations...so wrt to the courses offered what are the extra courses that one would need to study?...

How much of industry interaction does DoMS enjoy with respect to P&O...what; are the firms that hire P&O; candidates from DoMS?

How relevant is the course with respect to the current market?..as in the theory behind operations and SCM is what most B Schools would offer...what i wana know is if there is assistance provided by insti for certain certifications(..like SAP or APICS)..or does the insti have a tie up with organisations that do provide the same...

Thx....

There is no specialization in DoMS, IIT Madras per se. So there is no specialization for Projects & Operations. This is only the overarching function that we r talking about. It consists of core courses such as Operations Mgmt and SCM that are covered in the first yr. After that u may, for example decide to major in Operations and do a minor in Finance. So u can mix and match electives from Ops and Fin. The electives for Project & Operations are here: DoMS IIT Madras. There are no other extra courses required. This is what sets us apart from other institutes where ur bound by the boundaries defined by the specialization. Here u may also choose such electives that give u general mgmt degree rather than a specialization.

DoMS has a strong, dynamic and active relationship with the industry. We have a tie up with Caterpillar where in apart from recruiting for summers and finals, their executives come here for guest lectures and we also assist them in projects. We have a tie up with Oracle where apart from the project relationship that we have with CAT, we are involved in Beta Testing for their ERP and CRM softwares.

Other major recruiters for this function include Schulumberger, Ingersoll Rand and Lucas TVS.

The course is very industry-relevant as u can see that the best from the industry recruit from us and ensure that the course material stays relevant.

Currently we don't offer any tie-ups or certifications.

Hi Quagmire

thx for that info...Schlumberger...thats interesting...so what kind of profile do they offer?....what kind of experience do they look for?

Regardin the majors u said that the courses can be picked across departments and there is no specific specialisation that you are required to stick to...what i wana know is whether the insti really gives u that kinda options?...asking this cos even in Engg we had a lot of electives but only few were actualy offered...
secondly want to know about what kind of modules/domains do people usualy get into once they join these organisations....

Thx

Schlumberger offers jobs in SCM, Procurement and Logistics.

.All electives listed are taught. We have faculty to teach each one of them. Its just that you must have sufficient numbers to choose them. So at the start of each quarter students choosing each function get together to decide the ones that they will be selecting.

After entering into an Ops firm a person may work in the fields mentioned above or distribution, product development, project management, etc.

Puys,

IIT Madras and ISB have signed up an agreement, more info is available on:

The last rank a person had and converted for the batch of 07-09 was in the range of 1500s.

However, this might change this year depending upon the no of applicants and the marks scored by the applicants.

Please find below the video link of Dr. LS Ganesh, HOD DoMS, IIT Madras in Action on CNN-IBN.
It was telecasted on 16th Nov 2007 (5.30pm & 8.30 pm)
CNN team informed us only on 16th, 4.30 pm.

The JMET office(this yr IIT KGP) will issue ranks based on if you clear the cut-offs and how did u score relative to the other applicants.

After the ranks are issued, the institute gives decide on the cut off ranks depending upon the number of applications they have received.

PS: Avoid sms lingos in future.

I know IITB is first IITD is second. What about IITKGP, IITM etc.

Also Do we have 100% placements in IITM?

Hi Arjun,To add to what Manish says, it's still very early to say what the sectional cutoffs might be and whether one may clear them or not. Don't go too much by the analysis of the institutes. Just wait for the results and your qualification. Its only after you qualify, are you eligible to apply and get calls for any IIT. Till them simply prepare for other exams and get ready for the GT/GD/PIs.....So, don't worry and All the best!
