Vivek, what you have analyzed is true. However, I would say that the success of this program depends a lot on the pariticipants. Initial batches would have lesser references but over a period of time if the credibility of the batch is proved then the program itself would benefit.
On the other hand, looking at the profile asked by the selection, more or less the participants are substantially experienced, come from reputed companies and hence the chances to have an elite batch profile would work to a great advantage and would be a good alumni contact.
Next is the seriousness exhibited by the institute and participants. At least the institute looks serious with the process and site. I believe the course would be gruelling enough to keep the participants busy (that what eMEP guys also told me).
Again these are MY opinions.
I dont know if IIMK would put IDL in the diploma though.. its not mentioned anywhere!
I dont think IDL is mentioned in the certificate, at least the Web Site doesn't say this...
I confirmed with Huges Net. They dont put IDL. They have a sample certificate at the center it seems. Any concerns...feel free to go and have a look.
I discussed with couple of people from Pune. They are pursuing e-mep. All they said is, program is very nice and so are professors. It all depends on participents and you , how seriously you do your projects, assignments and attend lectures. They said, contents of the program is really good. lots of people who have completed eMep have opted for e-pgp program.
Anyone planning to join from Bangalore?
Hi Chinmay,
you may be right about IIMC becuase i have not seen there certificates but i will share my experience with you, i had enrolled in the executive program in global businees management but there was a total caos as far as the running of the program on IDL mode was concerned with constant technical glitches and no information about the classes ,people were quite rebelious with the state of affairs though i had opted out of the program as the centre from where i took classes as it had certain issues with Hughes so it was a blessing in disguise for me that the centre closed down and it paved the way for my opting out with the money i had deposited.
And as for the IDL mention on the certificate it is very much confirmed as i have seen it first hand.
Hi Sumanth ,
I called up IDL office and they said it would be very much mentioned as they have to keep the distinction between full time and distance module.
Hi Chinmay,
regarding the USP of this program with with respect to imk alumni,i would like to tell you the thoughts of one of the best known alumni of IIMK ,ADITYA GAHLAUT Sr Vice President HSBC,according to him the industry wont give this mode of education the weightage people might think by getting this ePGP as they go recruiting looking for the best of the talents during the placements as the students get into the IIM's by a rigorous gruelling procedure, which is not the case with this mode.
The institutes have to folow these courses to generate funds.
And with regards to Gourav's views that knowledge has to be certified here this alumni,s view were that if you have knowledge then you can impress the interviewer even if there is someone else for the job with good MBA ,then knowledge is given more weightage
A nd how did i get these thoughts of this alumni ???? He is my close friend's brother.
Even during his stay at IIMK he was not interested in getting good grades but to gain knowledge and all those who were good grade students or toppers of his batch they are nowhere to the height he gained by sheer harwork once he came into the industry
So i think this is a good lesson for everyone to learn that a degree alone cant make you reach the top or succeed.
Vivek,
Then why did he ( Friend of your brother) went to IIM-K. He didn't care about the grades once he got into IIM but before that he did all the hard work to get into IIM because he knew the imporatnce of it. Why didn't he acquired all the knowledge simply reading the books and doing the hardwork?. If he thinks that he is ,where he is now just because he has knowledge and worked hard then he may be wrong. He must have got the first break because he was from IIM. Ofcourse knowledge does matter but simply having the knowledge and working hard is not sufficient.
I don't say that this applies to everyone, there are few exceptional people who have done well without any formal education from any institute but those are very few.
I am certainly not in that category. So for people like me even though we are talented and knowledgeable that has to be certified.
Hi All,
I am from Chennai & I got the admission letter too for the ePGP from IIMK.
I read through this tread & won't be deterred by it. Why?
As it is a clear No for me to take a year off and get into a regular "MBA" program.
MBA type of education needs to be provided in an classroom type situation & I don't think you self-learn from books; one read books for cultural self-enhancement but goes to a school to learn - there is a difference.
IIMK or IIMC is all the same - people doing this are already employed & have a professional network & are not counting on campus interviews for career enhancement.
What I would like to hear is the voice of an past student expressing his opinions about the programme & how they benefit from it.
One of my main concerns is to find adequate time (no more sat outings)...
Anyone joining from Chennai?
I am also planning to join this course.
The learning is very good, the institute is excellent and I don't bother about the certificate/diploma.
@anasamma,
I have got very good response from the earlier students (one of my close friend is also doing this).
Anybody from Bangalore, please let me know.
Regards,
Sumanth
I am also joining this program.
Anyone from Bangalore?
Factors affecting my decision:
a) Very good feedback about the course contents from earlier students of eMEP. Almost everybody I heard is planning for ePGP.
b) Its a diploma not a certification unlike other courses and hence can be considered as masters equivalent (as mentioned in the FAQ of IIMK).
c) My long time desire to study MBA (in spirit). I tried to read MBA in 10 days; individual books like Philip Kotler, Michael Porter, Peter Drucker but am not satisfied that I got a holistic picture.
d) Kerala is close to Bangalore!
Hi Sumant ,
I will be joining from Bangalore .
Regards,
Pratul
Guys where do you plan to stay in Kozhikode...
dunno yet, please let me know if any of you have decided...
Looks like IIMK hostels will not be available. Also the tariffs of the hotels put up in the excel seems to be bit high. So if anyone has some info pl post.
Nice to see so many positive responses. I will be joining from Pune. There are 3 more people going to join from Pune. I am in touch with them.
Regarding Hotels I did some search on google and found following hotels to be nice and resonable.
Hotel Malabar Gate
Ram Mohan Road, Calicut
Phone: 0495-2724534
Hotel Hyson Heritage
Bank Road, Calicut
Phone: 0495-2766423
Hotel Maharani
Taluk Road, Calicut
Phone: 0495-2723101
I would suggest not book the hotels for 5-6 days at one go , rather book for 2 days, stay there and if you find it nice then extend else move to other hotel. Also if someone is looking for sharing the room and don't have any partner now. They can get the partner in 2 days once we all meet on 21st Sep.
People who are joining ePGP - I or eMEP , for 2009 to 2011, please join the group :
http://groups.google.com/group/epgp-iimk-2009-11
We will discuss the hotels... might be we get a group discount!
HI Evrery one there
I read all the views here...I only knows that check your capability...if you are capable to cross GMAT with 720 score than go for 1 year full time residential course...and if u are not so capable the, this course is best ...as having a MBA degree with IIMK is better then having a degree with any other institute.(part time)
Secondly, knowledge cant be taken by reading books.....if this would have been true then no colleges n schools was required...
My sugesstion to all the aspirants is, join this course if they can afford and please try to afford..........
i am joining this course from Noida...So frd whosoever is joining this corse is heartly welcome ....waiting for you all to c u there on 21 Sep.
Take Care
