ePGP from IIMK 2023

Hi Perivr,

Thanks for initiating the google grp. Much appreciated.

Debo

Hi Im from Mumbai, Ive been shortlisted for this course , though I still dont know if I really want to do it. I mean .. there's very little on any of the threads about
the benefit of the course w.r.t
recognition in the market.
What i do see as a plus point here is that this course is a Diploma course.

Can anyone advise or check with any seniors on the benefit of the course and what it has done for them.

debojyotisarker any leads ?

@Gunmaster: thanks for posting your query here. The ePGP program for 2010-2012 is only the 3rd batch, that means that only one batch has completed the course so far..

Few pointers from seniors:
1) Last year approx 70 guys were enrolled. This year the expected number is 200. Encouraging stats ;)
2)If someone is looking at the program for immediate Return Of Investment or a job change, I guess he could be disappointed. This program could help us in overall skill enhancement, chance to network with some of the best brains from different domains and obviously opportunity to interact with some of the best faculties.
3) I guess you are correct in saying that at present, this is the only exec/ part time course from IIM's which gives us an Exec Post Grad Diploma (I might be wrong)
4) All the seniors with whom I have interacted gave promising & positive feedbacks about the course.

Last but not the least, someone also told me that his friend is presently on 'wait list' number 57. Hence, there are lot of guys who are waiting, if we don't decide to join the program.

Hi friends,

Hi Im from Hosur( Tamil Nadu ) and Ive been shortlisted for this course.
Have anyone received the offer letter (Hard Copy ) ???

Chandru

Hi everyone,

I also got shortlisted for ePGP based in Bangalore. Received a call from HughesNet yesterday that the offer letters were dispatched from Calicut yesterday. We should be getting it in couple of days.

Keep an eye on this and confirm here upon receipt. Thanks.

Hii All,

I am Kshitij Arya and got admission letter over the email for EPGP3 (2010-2012). I am really considering to join the program as I got very good reviews and it really suits the kind of PGD I was looking for. I was looking for some thread on EPGP3 on pagalguy for long and thankfully I got one.

I have sent my request for joining google group "epgp-iimk-2010-12". I will be joining from Delhi region. Wanted to discuss in detail about accomodation and other related stuff from joining participants.

Regards,
Kshitij Arya

c) From which date IDL sessions will be starting

Thanks,

Hi all,

I also got selected for epgp-2010. But,they created a lot of confusion in my case. They have updated my mail id wrongly online and it said " your name didnt figure in the list". But recieved a call from hughes to confirm i am selected.I will be joining from bangalore.

Any idea what would be the final intake for the course. I have called up IDL to clear my confusion and the lady told that they have shortlisted around 320( may be she added up waiting list also).

Any idea what is the number of applications recieved for the course? This would tell us if there is real demand or the test and interview are just to create some hype for the course. But, i am really surprised that there is waitlist for the course which is a positive.

There is a discussion last year in this thread about the final certificate that will be issued where in people expressed different views whether IDL will be mentioned or not. Some one throw some light on this.

Hi,

The class will be from 26th Sept 2010 - 1st Oct 2010. One query I had, if IIMK is going to provide us separate email ids (IIM email id) for the enrolled students?

Regards,
Rony

Hi all

I got selected for eMEP program this year from Blr. I am also yet to receive any communication from iimk on this. I am just browsing through the various information available on net regarding this program. Some of my questions are:

1) I see many people apply for ePGP rather than eMEP, Any specific reason for people preferring ePGP. I applied for eMEP because of the duration being one-year and hence, the opportunity cost to be less.

2) Any idea on the percentage of people pursuing eMEP/ePGP being in technical role versus in some management role?

3) Any first hand feedback on the industry acceptance of the program. Now that there are various programs (satellite based) from various institutes available, it is very important to know that how this program is perceived by industry?

4) Comparisons (+ve/-ve) of eMEP/ePGP with other programs of similar nature from other institutes.

I have the above questions; but I guess many people might also be having the same set of questions. Any answers to this will be highly appreciated.

TIA

I hv bn trying to see if i cld find any forum leads on eEPM of IIM K. I got selected and being from an unconventional background( international sales-french italian )I was a bit surprised and want to know if anyone has done eEPM . My worry is the quality at hughes as at time of interview itself I felt it was very very dingy.

thanks

Answers to some of your questions:
1) I think the single most imp reason for this is that ePGP gives you a Executive PG Diploma in Mgmt from IIMK (similar to their 2yr full time PGP which awards a PG Diploma in Mgmt).
2) Someone from previous eMEP/ePGP can answer this well.
3) Although no one has been able to give a verdict on the program as such, however I think the fundamentals of this course (content wise and the IIMK brand value) are strong points in favour of opting for this program. I have a relative in HR though who said this wont be perceived by industry as equivalent to full time PG, however coupled with solid exp and your ability to sell yourself will surely get you going.
4) No other gen mgmt IDL program offered by top 10 mgmt institutes gives a PGD, they all award a 'certificate' - I think this is the single most important USP of this program and also shows the confidence IIMK itself has in this program. Couple this with the fact that they do screen candidates in the form of entrance test+interviews+2 references gives you some peace of mind that no Tom, **** and Harry can make it....

Although I am also in the same boat and presently evaluating whether or not to take up ePGP, hope my 2 cents on why I am tilting towards going for this program have helped you take a decision...

thanks for comments. it is comforting your comments ,. they do help .I got a kind of pasting in my interview amd hence was a bit taken back when i got the email confirming .
secondly if one does a string search abt performance delivery of Hughes in other websites ,it is a bit un nerving.

i wish if there was somebody who has done some courses thru huges in chennai who cld gv a feedback

thanks in any case

Dear Friends,
I Have received my offer letter through post.
Is any body looking for educational loan. Ple provide some hints.
Will the offer letter do or any other letter /certificate required from IIM ??
Any way ill be going to the bank this evening.

As far as I know - You may get a loan for the program, but as this is not a a full time course, you cannot avail tax benefit on the interest paid for the course.

Thanks milind.

Hi Chandru,
I am waiting for my offer letter to approach the Bank. HughesNet is tie up with HDFC but it seems to be interest % is on higher side. They offer 100% loan for 13% on a reducing balance method and no processing fee. In this case, 3369 would be the EMI for 3 years per lakh.

Upon receipt of the offer letter, i plan to enquire SBI. They offer 11.5% as i heard.

Let me know how you go.
Cheers!

@greyhawk..Thanks!

I got the letter from iimk today. The last date to accept (read pay fees) is Sept 10th. I agree with your point that only IIMK offers two years program over IDL and are offering an executive diploma. Others are one yr course and hence certificates are awarded (as the contact hours are less).

I think one of the question that many people will be interested in is regarding the industry recognition of the course (eMEP/ePGP). I guess most of us can be categorized in one of the following categories.

1) The first category is the pool of aspirants who wish to change their role..May be from software development to a role that involves management. This pool of people expect ROI to be a management role with better salary. I will not discount the learning part here for this pool of participants, but that does not figure in their priority.
2) The second category is the pool of aspirants who are already in a management role. They are in a better position to apply the learnings of this course to their daily job. The ROI they look for in this course are learning that can readily applied for their improved performance on job, promotions to senior management level after this course.
3) The third category is the pool of participants who are only interested in learning the concepts of management. They might not expect any tangible benefits out of this course; but do so to satiate their intellectual calling.
4) The fourth category of aspirants are the ones who want to have the tag of iim in their resume without going through the grind of CAT/GMAT. The ROI for them is the value-addition to their resumes.

As per the feedback I got from people, this course is very good for 2, 3 and 4 category of aspirants.

The only thing that is not very clear is for aspirants of category-1.

Any students from previous batch(es) can add their inputs..That will be helpful.

2. I do not know the exact stats; but one way to get an estimate is to check the profiles of the current eMEP and ePGP students, available at iimk website.

3. One of the question I asked interview panel was how does this program compare to regular PGP, content and faculty wise. Whereas interviewer did confirm that content and faculty wise it is similar, I guess this program will never be comparable to the regular programs.
I believe differentiating factor for regular IIM programs is not just content and faculty. I think what really seperates them is the entry barrier to the program, that fact that only a small number of applicants makes to the program makes these programs elite. eMEP/ePGP may not be have this advantage.
In terms of brand IIM, I think IIMs are consciously keeping IDL programs in different league compare to regular programs and we might be disappointed if we keep expectations too high.

If I read between the lines of all feedback I got, industry recognition of the program may be absent, unless you are able to convince your company HR/Manager you have acquired additional knowledge in management and ready for higher responsibilities.
I agree that acquiring knowledge and self development is a very important USP, but I am not sure how many of us are willing to spend 5 lac for acquiring knowledge.

How does eMEP/ePGP compares to the part time weekend class room based Management programs available (as example institutes like TA Pai. NMIMS in Bangalore)? These programs may actually cost you less and provides direct class room interaction.
