Equity Markets

One more thing... Should one take care of investing same amount in both sides...? In ur example if nifty goes up, one will be in loss if dlf increases more than nifty. And generally it will happen bcoz dlf has a higher beta than nifty. If i may ask, what was ur return...?

I made good money...

the same skills used for finding a directional trade are used here. The portfolio is supposedly risk neutral and not net equity exposure neutral... You calculate from volatility of both tickers the amount in % you can lose... then adjust your lot/share size

this friday(28th) bough DLF and short APOLLOHOSP

the meaning of revealing positions in my job is v different and comes with a 600 words legal disclaimer :p

but definitely impressed by you guys I've been doing this stuff last 5 years requires hell lot of work... if any of you have consistent record can shoot for good prop trading desks like GS, JPM...

and yes this is far from a pair trade but since I was asked 😁
Ever heard of risk arbitrage or long-short equity? ;)

It will be a very seldom instance when you can actually forecast the trend.

Thanks for providing a new outlook..:)

But I guess, we cant short equity unless we are trading it in futures segment.. isnt it?

in cash segment, only intraday
for positional trading, you can apply same concept by using options 😉

it's wise of you to be skeptic about betting money on stocks without good research.
Selecting MFs is similar like selecting stocks.
Best are SIP and ULIPs... call home agents/RMs, get overview of various plans before investing.

Lol, even Pair is not safe in such a volatile market..
I've executed many pairs in my broking days...L&T-Punj;, ICICI-Kotak, HCC-Nagarjuna etc etc...Some times the client makes money, but most of the times suffers a loss.
Only saving grace is that it's not blind speculation like future trades. There's a rationale behind the pair, like mean deviation etc!!

Hehe hope I didnt sound cryptic... no post since my post...

guys pair trading is best... we should not try predicting the direction of entire market... so better to find a pair of strong stock and weak stock.

Yes, you'll either get screwed very badly or mint a lot of money if the Pair trade's not a money-neutral one.

Is going for ULIPs wise?
With Sebi and Irda still at loggerheads over who gets the right to market ULIPs?
Sebi had banned around 14 insurers for marketing ULIPs
Which is the best MF and scheme to invest in?
How about sectoral MFs? Which is the sector one should look at with a horizon of a year? I think pharma is good and telecom valuations pretty cheap! Bharti @ 270..A steal?

yupp thats why I said the same skills required for directional trades are used here. Also probability of getting screwed is less since people keep atleast 4-6 positions and the chances of all going rogues simultaneously is less.

Also market neutral as the term comes from independence from market benchmark; overnight gap down of 10% in nifty won't blow you up

As an Aside, If Anyone who has enough knowledge in financial markets or has considerable financial or economic gyan is willing to have a discussion on Fundamental Trading vs Technical Trading then I would be very glad. I am a Fundamental Trader and I would ideally want to fight it out with a Technical Trader. Any takers (please)?
