Dalal Street Gods,
I am still novice as far as Futures & Options are concerned .
I want to take plunge.
Can anyone guide me how to get started ?
And which stocks are better for this segment ?
satyamfiredme SaysHow many times is powergrid oversubscribed in retail category
As per the information available on the NSE website, the Power Grid FPO is subscribed 3.85 times in the retail category.
can i buy power grid after its listed...how are the prospects

If you want to make money in short term (less than 6 months), Power Grid may not be the ideal stock for you.
But in the longer run (2-3 years time frame), Power Grid can do well. There is a huge capex spending in progress in anticipation of increased power generation planned across the country.
Risk of downside is less and it is a Central Government undertaking , hence no worries on the nature of the management.
i have subscribed for power grid. frommy knowledge i feel it wont rise like coal india on day one but s it not a good investment to fetch more than 20% return in two months ???

it will get listed on the current price itself..which is 100.

I dont know much about futures but I invest in options. F&O; contains very high risk than normal market.
In options the stock is traded on premium value not on the base value plus each trade has an expiry.
You need to understand following terms first:
Expiry: Each trade has an expiry attached to it which is generally last thursday of the month. So you can trade for this month expiry, next month and so on.
Call: If you think the stock price is going to be up you take a call.
Put: If you think the stock price is going to be down you take a put.
Lot size: Minimum amount of stock for buying.
e.g. Shree Renuka Sugars is trading at 95/-. Lot size: 2000
There will be different calls & puts in market like -
RENUKA-100-CA Current Price: 2/-
RENUKA-105-CA Current Price: 1/- etc.....
If you guess that the price of the share can go upto 105, then you trade in RENUKA-105-CA.
Your investment: 1/-x2000 = 2000/-
If the stock price reaches near 105 then premium rises.
You can sell this trade at the current premium price.
it will get listed on the current price itself..which is 100.

I think the Sensex will go around 18k mark during mid December, mainly because of FIIs moving out. Will it be a good time to purchase new stocks?
Any views?

I dont think that markets will fall to 18K. FIIs wont be moving out so easily. Indian economy is quite strong this time. US has believe in Indian economy and hence FIIs 'll bring more money with time. Recent example of US faith in Indian economy was Obama's visit.
hi
i dont think sensex will fall down to 18k. it s on the right path and the corrections r making it fluctuate, also for the subscription of the ipo's people sell their shares which they r holding currently. then once they get back the excess money after allotment they keep buying again. so dont worry sensex wudnt go to 18k sure.

Still the present wave is not complete , so in terms of nifty there may be another 150-200 points of fall remaining.
Traditionally, FIIs have been taking money out in the months of November/December so as to book the profit as their year ends on 31st December. But there is no fundamental problem. Every fall should be used as an opportunity to invest.
yes they have got alloted. i checked in net banking just now.. i have appied for 520 shares and i have got 140.
satyamfiredme Saysare the power grid shares alloted?
yes i applied for 1 lakh and i got worth 26k
one of my frnds got arnd 40%
I think the present wave is done with itself and the correction in markets is over with today's rebound
What say PUYs??

The markets were over heated and needed one good reason to cool down and they got it in the form of loan scam and realty stocks started getting beaten down mercilessly.
I feel the rebound will not be a strong one.
