Equity Markets

got some money to invest in mutual funds. no time to sit and trade on my own so might as well give it to somebody who will handle it well....

any suggestions which one i should choose.... standard chartered gave my family friend a return of 23% some time back.

Hay ,
Its good to enter into Mutual Fund Investment. But what i feel the present time is not the
right moment to ener, since its appretiation depends on NAV . As the market is already at hostorical high, so also NAV. So wait till the denominator gets down to get a better return.

Hi

Sundaram mutual fund has launched a new fund ...CAPEX opportunities fund where by the proceeds of the mutual fund will be invested in companies trading for capital goods ....

The new fund offer starts from 10th august and will end on 5th sept ...The company also plans to mop up Rs300 crores thru this fund ..

How do u guys think ...is it worth investing in this fund ?

I just made my first investment in mutual funds ...thru Sahara wealth plus fund ...

Well it is not a bad option at all gaurav440. The captial goods market is booming and there is lot of prospects of that in the current Indian economical situation. But do keep in mind that the risk-return ratio is higher in your case as it is a sector-specific fund.

Happy investing.

Hi junta ...

Well ...the recently concluded saskens communication IPO has attracted huge investments and generated a great deal of interest among the public .

The IPO has been oversubscribed to the extent of 54 times in retail category alone ...277 times in Non Institutional category ....:wow:

The website closes its review of Sasken with a negative note. It says that the IPO prices are steep and with the corresponding risks that Sasken is facing, there is no margin.

Gaurav,
How do you still maintain that Sasken could a good investment. This is not a criticizing statement... just wanted to know what all do wise investors check before investing into IPO's.... coz me a newbie in investing.

Quite astonishing figures ....none of the recent or any past IPOs attracted such nos ....
Its beyond obvious that those striking an allotment will definitely benefit ...from the huge listing gains ....just that they have to be the luckiest lot

guys..visit www.traderji.com

it has loads of technical analysis and a few reallly good discussions!!

Hey can any one throw some light on commodity trading , risk involved, liquidity, timings, minimum investment, trading platforms...etc etc ....Does any one trade in these ....

tell me about it.
of these recent IPO's i applied to 5 or 6 chosen and good IPOs and got allocated in only one. that too 1/5th of what i applied for

u might want to get in touch with your broker. they would give u brief on this. word of caution - understand this well before you venture into this.

btw there is so much money to be made on equity, why venture elsewhere.

Finally something I know about, well commodity trading is much like trading in stock futures, but for now is just plane and simple not much of options trading involed.

Three major trading houses in the field right now NCDEX, MCX and NMCE. Each with certain commodities specialisation, for eg. Gold in MCX has high volume trades and guar seed in NCDEX as well as rubber in NMCE. You have a host of commodities to trade in, each commodity has a crop season and moves with basic demand and supply rule. But even though things are pretty simple nobody can predict the commodity for a long run. One should trade in commodity one is familiar with, if he is not familiar with any commodity watch the market for a few days to study, silver would be a good bet to start with the price movements are not very drastic.
There is a lot of money into this and has been a trade for a very long time only now has it come into focus. About mutual funds in this segment please read my past thread. There are many brokerage houses involved in this and will gladly accept funds on ur behalf to trade. There are different offers that make for u to trade. I am involved with one such company abt which u can ask me if u want to. Anymore quaries in commodity trading pls ask!!!!
tell me about it.

hi ,

The chances of getting an allotment in an IPO all boil down to the luck factor which is in turn affected by a no. of factors like ...oversubscription for a particular scrip , the quantity (no. of shares) for which u apply ...and the basis of allotment ..etc

The shares are generally alloted in a certain ratio for no. of applications received in that category ...For eg : In a retail category , if the bid lot is ..15 shares ...then bids will be received in the form of 15 , 30 , 45 , 60 shares and so on ...and each is a separate distinct category ...and depending on the no. of applications received in that category ...the allotment for shares is finalised .....

Needless to say ...the higher the no. of shares u bid for ...the higher the chances for u to procuring allotment ....until and unless the scrip is HEAVILY oversubscribed as in case for saskens ....

Happy investing till then

Gaurav bhai,

I 'm not Gaurav, Still trying to throw some light to the forum.

Reliance ELSS( Equity linked Saving Scheme) is also a Mutual Fund. But it's an Open ended Scheme , with high risk & high return. Also you will get TAx rebate under Section 80.
That's why its locking period is minimum 3 yrs to get Tax rebate. And return is purely market linked , where you are not assured of any fixed return unlike some Mutual Fund.

Hey ,

Good to see some actuvity on this thread

ELSS is a type of mutual fund itself that invests in equity and some debt instruments ...mix may be like 70 percent equity , 30 percent debt etc ..depending on the portfolio of the AMC ...

Further the objective of the scheme may differ from Dividend oriented scheme which aims for regular income ..to Growth oriented scheme which aims for a capital appreciation in the amount of money which u have invested .

Normally , theres a lock in period of 3 yrs in an ELSS ..as for the reliance ELSS ..someone already answered that part

And is the return fixed on ELSS? I think that for a Mutual fund, the return is fixed by the AMC in between a limit... m i rite??
