Guys... sorry for dropping in on a serious discussion like this... but i really wanna learn about the basics of the stock market et al... currency appreciation, depreciation, etc... can anyone suggest a website or two? I tried sharekhan... wasn't of much use...
and tried howstuffworks.com : clarified a few doubts but was too simple...

Puhleez help, dudes...

you won't be able to learn much just by visiting website the only way u can gain knowledge about the share trading is by actually sitting infront of the terminal and watch ppl trade, that's the practical point of view since i have recently joined a stock broking firm and trying to learn the basics of trading on the nse terminal. I can understand that for many of you it may not be possible to watch the trading accessibility problem but ya if you desperately want to get into trading and all that then its best to watch people trade. I am really enjoying the experience as i find it very interesting to see the prices of different shares sky rocketting and other spiralling down

Dude, i'm not a potential investor or anything, neither do i see myself as a stockbroker in the future... nor do i want to write a book titled "Quintessential BSE Trading Tips and Cheats".
i just want to understand how the market works. Just the basics, and all that. I appreciate your advice and being an engineer (ha, ha!!!!) i can definitely vouch for the fact that nothing beats learning like practical on-hands training.

In that case i wud still recommend same site.. just go through the basic tutorials.. they'll help you understanding whats stocks, bonds, mfs actaully are...and how do they work..
atleast u'll get familiarized with terms... lk P/E ratio n all:)

Will get back to you if i need more "advanced" help... but this should suffice for now, where i'm more interested in learning the basics. Just a bit of gyaan wanted about the biz-world and all... not really wanting to swim deep into investing waters...!!!!

was shocked when we recd the refund check, know it was oversubscribed 28x but what the heck could get any share for max application

it is the basis on which the weightage of shares in sensex decided
for example infy is having highest weightage in sensex and it's also having
highest free float market cap

free float stock in the market place means stocks of the company available for trading ie, market cap, adjusted after considering restricted holdings viz. promoters' equity, employee stock options, other holdings with a lock-in period, etc).

Thru my analysis and research on the internet ...
I think it wud be worth applying to BL Kashyap and Mahindra finance ...

Union Bank is a good issue ..and wud give good returns in the long run ...but if u are looking for quick bucks ..this offering may not be for u ...as already there is an arbitrage opportunity ...Offer price Rs100-110 ..and the market price is Rs 117 around sumthin ..so chances are by the time of allotment the price may fall down further like in the case of PNB (Punjab national bank) FPO sometime back ...

K sera sera ltd is again listed on BSE and currently trading at Rs 75 sumthing ...and the offer price is around Rs 64-70 ...so my pick is again wont provide good returns in the near future ...

i must say super speculated share...hold for now ..wait for 35 sell it and come out...then again inverst at 22 and follw the same rule
