Not school, but BBA 1st year se I am investing.
But lakhs and crores nahi kamaya
As I had invested very very small amount as I was a student only and didn't have so much money.
Now I feel,If I would have invested 1 lakh in 2002,how much it would have been now??

I started with Bharti Airtel @ Rs 160 and ICICI Bank @ 220 odd.

Hi Puys,

I just entered into stock market month back to learn how stock market works after tracking ET for 1 1/2 year. 😁

I m into stock market for 2 reasons:
1. To learn more then to earn.
2. Left JOB for SNAP,NMAT,CET and likes.

1 word is bugging me a lot thats CIRCUIT.

What is this CIRCUIT?? There are many stocks all from small to midcap companies.....which is increasing at 5 to 10% a day. No seller is there??

What funda is behind this circuited stock???

what is "Circuit " ?? Why it is implemented??

Plz throw some light on CIRCUIT.

Thanx.

Regards,
Keyur.

@Akhil: Does your Indiabulls account permits trading in BSE stocks? and Trading in Z category NSE stocks?

My account doesn't permit trading in 1) BSE stocks :eh: and 2) Z category NSE stocks. Now I came to know that even stocks like JM Financial, Electrosteel Castings are "not A category" stocks and hence I cannot trade in them :(

AND....

@Keyur: Circuits are meant to limit the volatility on both the upside and the downside. Upside coz the particular huge mvmnts. could be due to some insider trading and malpractices. Downside so as to limit the loss of investor wealth. So there are both: upper circuit and the lower circuit.

Small-caps have the circuits of 20%-10% etc. and as the stock moves up from being a small-cap to mid-cap to large cap the circuits change from 20%->10%->5%

Know this much only buddy. Hope it may have helped in some way.

AND....

Short-term i.e. max 1 month outlook on-
-> Ispat (arnd 78 levels right now ..will it cross say 100? )
-> Essar Oil (arnd 330 odd levels right now...)

Short-term coz these aren't the stocks which I personally think one should hold for the long term simply coz there are much better and much more trusted companies for such time horizon. So if anybody can throw some light these 2 for the short-term, it would be great.

P.S. @Akhil: awesome buy prices of Bharti and ICICI

hey
can we sell our 1 lac applications in future capital and rel power to someone in delhi for premium? what we call kostak rates?
kostak rates of future capital = 3000
rel power= 10k

who can we sell our applications in delhi in grey market?

Hello guys,

Need help in understanding the basics of the market.

1) how does a company make money?
lets assume they are offering 100 shares with a face value of 10 and they fix the price of 100 in the IPO. so will the company get 100*100 or 10*100 when it list at 100.

Later what happens when the price comes down or goes up. who gets that premium money .

2) why does the stock price vary so much.

if some body place a buy order more than the current market price and if some one is eready to sell then the price varies. But why do people sell for reasons like global weekness. If we dont sell the price remains same right . we can sell when the market is bullish .

3) what does the face valus of a stock signify?

Action : BUY
Exchange : NSE
Contract Details : OPT-GMRINF-31-Jan-2008-250-CA
Quantity : 1250
Order Type : Market
Last Traded price : 6.10#
Estimated Order Value : 312,500.00
Estimated Premium Value : 7,625.00
Contract Expiry Date : 31-Jan-2008
Order Validity : 10-Jan-2008

the above is the order details. now if the stock price reaches 250 , how much will i get the profit or if it reaches 220 how much will i loose.
Could any please elobarate on the order and explain how we can make money in options .

Let me try,

1) how does a company make money?
lets assume they are offering 100 shares with a face value of 10 and they fix the price of 100 in the IPO. so will the company get 100*100 or 10*100 when it list at 100.
If the company fixes price of 100, it will get 100*100. This is the amount they get from investors.

Later what happens when the price comes down or goes up. who gets that premium money .

Once company sells its shares, it is no longer the owner of the sold shares. (obviously:-P ), So when the prices move up, the seller of the share gets the premium amount.
But usually companies do not offer all the shares in an IPO. Typically it is 10%-30% of the shares. When the share prices rise, companies can release (sell) their holding in the form of FPO ( Follow on public offer).

2) why does the stock price vary so much.

if some body place a buy order more than the current market price and if some one is eready to sell then the price varies. But why do people sell for reasons like global weekness. If we dont sell the price remains same right . we can sell when the market is bullish .
It is a typical demand-supply concept. Why people sell shares? simple. They need money. For example, I need money to buy a house by this weekend. So I am willing to sell the shares, at whatever price I get today.
Or share holders fear that prices might go down still, and they want to sell the shares before that.

3) what does the face valus of a stock signify?

Facevalue * total number of shares = base capital of the company. This base capital will start (suppose) getting profit over time, and thus investors are ready to buy the share over a premium to the face value ( so that they can have a share in the profit), and thus share prices rise. If they sell a share of face value 10 for 100, obviously they made money. ( coming back to ur first question)

Please feel free to correct me.

A right royal abuse of power
by Udayan Mukherjee, HT 8th Jan. 2008

The most awaited event of the Indian primary market calendar is here. Reliance Power may have priced its IPO in the Rs 415-450 band but the active grey
market price is Rs 900. This gives Reliance Power a potential listing market capitalisation of Rs 2,00,000 crore. With zero installed capacity today, expected
generation capacity of 6,000 megawatts by 2011 and 26,000 MW by 2016. NTPC, in itself a richly valued stock, has an installed capacity of 27,000 MW and
commands a similar market cap. The market has simply taken an eight year leap and priced it in the Reliance Power stock today. I find that staggering.
A look at the ratios look even more mind numbing. This IPO money is being raised to execute about 7,000 MW of capacity. That should be done by 2012.
That year, if all goes perfectly, Reliance Power will have revenues of Rs 7,700 crore, EPS of under Rs 8 and a book value of Rs 70. At the listing price of
Rs 900, the stock would be trading at a 2012 price-earning ratio of 110, a price to book value ratio of 13 and a market cap to sales ratio of 26.
These are four-year forward ratios, remember.
The ratios moderate somewhat for 2016 but by then much further dilution would have happened to finance the additional capacity so the market cap would
balloon substantially. This is madness. While many explanations abound on how such valuations could be justified, this is so similar to the 100-plus PEs
the market gave freely to information technology stocks back in 2000. While all of us know how that story finally ended, we should also remember how long
that madness continued. The power madness, too, will end, sector tailwind notwithstanding, but it may continue longer than we think it can before fizzling out.
While it lasts, the most expensive stock in the sector will become the valuation benchmark and will pull the others into the clouds. Just remember the old adage:
those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. __._,_
