Hello seniors...look at my case too
I passed my B.Tech from a decent engineering clg in 2010..landed up in a pvt core company...i didn't take IT jobs because i had heard that Core jobs are better as fas as experience matters for MBA..but the nature of job i found there made me hate my job and i finally quit the job in january..So here i am now jobless...want to make my career in Finance sector and preparing for MBA but as MBA exams would be in nov...so what would u suggest me to do in this period as i will have to explain about this gap in MBA clg interviews..please help out...should i try for some IT jobs or should enroll myself in CFA l1 dec exam and prepare for MBA entrance as well as 4 CFA xams...
if possible plz suggest some certification course in due period...i m totally confused now....to make my situation worse,i m nt in any big metro cities where i can try fr some job easily.....
Dude, we are almost in the same boat
Me too a B.E. 2010 pass-out. Interested only in Finance, specifically equity/capital markets. Whats your interest?
I suggest u should find a job in a brokerage house. I am looking for the same option. Preparing for CAT as well, but my target is CAT 2012, as no preparation this time :splat:
I am definitely considering CFA, but not as of now. My first preference is MBA. Coz MBA helps you switch profile/field, CFA doesn't. CFA is career/profile enhancer not changer.
So what are you doing as of now...??
Getting into a KPO is the perfect recipe for sabotaging you career. Your work ex would not amount to anything and you might never develop certain skillsets in a KPO.
Local broker is any Indian broker such as the ones you mentioned. And yes, its better to work in a local brokerage house as a junior analyst rather than in a KPO.
Hello tumtum, since, u have a sound knowledge of finance industry, pls solve my query.... i wanted to start my carrer in ER or in i banking... i have done BBA in grad but i do not have any certification like CFA, etc. The placements of my college from am pursuing PGDM is avg and it is approaching.... so could u pls suggest any short term course in finance that add to my resume and to my knowledge....and could u pls also tell me the companies that recruit fresh PGDM and from where i can have a decent start of my career in finance.
Thanks in advance
Hi guys, I am a CFA and an analyst at a leading IB in Mumbai.
I know very well that you guys without any work ex or a background in finance coud definitely land-up in IBanks. In fact, the IBs require people from vast diverse backgrounds and graduates in statistics, mathematics, engineering and IT are a big hit- even if they dont have an MBA. In fact I have seen that many IBs abroad even have physics , chemistry and music graduates working for them !!
The only catch is that you have to be from a top-rung institute in your graduation. Secondly, you must either register for a CFA if your interested in financial markets/ equity research but incase you are in love with corporate finance, you may well do CMA from Institute of Management Accountants (USA) or ACMA from CIMA UK alongside your job.
The UTI Institute of Capital Markets also offers a 1yr Securities Markets Program in Mumbai for those wanting a short-term course but in any case FORGET NCFM CERTIFICATION for breaking into ER/IBs coz they r just plain shit.
Feel free to ask more on it.
Regards,
Tumtum.
Here's a little info about me. I'm currently in the 4th year of my Undergraduation at IIT Kharagpur. I'm interested in IB and completed a 2 month internship at BRICS Securities in their Equity Research department this summer. I've got a Pre-Placement Offer from the company and they've offered me to start off as a Research Associate. I'm really interested in joining the team, but also am a little skeptical about further prospects, global exposure and rapid growth. To gain requisite knowledge in finance, I've registered for CFA L1 in June 2012.
My queries are - How important is it to start off at a very good firm? And also, how good is Equity Research at BRICS? I know I'm the one who has done the internship at the place, but I'd like to know the general opinion on the firm. How much is an Associate expected to be paid at the start? Please do help me out!
Hi,
I've got a job in SBI as a credit analyst on a contract basis. I'd like to know the different career paths that a credit analyst can take.
I'd also like to know, if being a contract employee in this job will mean that the future employers will also consider me for contract positions.
where r u posted ?
Hi,
Has anyone heard of Brick work Ratings? The only thing I know about this company is that it a credit rating agency. I'd like to know more about it.
If anyone has some knowledge about this company I'd be grateful to hear from you 😃
Hi,
I'm new to this forum. The forum looks so nice, And quite happy for having gone through the meaningful discussions here. I'm working as a Equity research analyst at one of the prominent brokerages in Kochi, Kerala for the last one and half years, and I look for a change now.
I've been getting calls from Copal Partners at Gurgaon for the equity research position. The profile looks decent as shown below:
,In-depth analysis of company financials
,Report writing skills (investment thesis, fact analysis, assessment of key growth drivers / challenges in industry etc.)
,Assumption based financial modeling skills
,Valuation modeling (DCF, relative, SOTP)
,Benchmarking companies on various financial and operating parameters to analyze the competitive positioning
,Ability to lead multiple projects and handle multiple clients
,Supervising and developing a team of analysts.
I will appreciate if you advice whether i have to take the offer or not.
Thanks
Aslam
