Can someone please tell me a bit more about the FPM prog at IIMB? Hows the general motivation and atmosphere there? Ehen can we expect to hear from them regarding the RAT/interviews? and lastly, which FPM would be preferable- IIMB vs ISB.
i have 4 years of workex in finance with decent acads. However i have been out of work almost 2 years due to health issue. During this time, I also felt that i would be more productive as an academician than i can ever imagine to be in a 12 hour shifts of extremely repititive calculations. I am interested in doing an fpm in OB-HR, however i am apprehensive that this sabbatical might go against me. Any thoughts/advice will be much appreciated.
@indianhoshi When you harbour such apprehensions (-ve thoughts) in your mind, it starts causing a lot of things, one of which is you start doubting your own ability.
Do you believe that if I or someone support your apprehension, you will stop thinking of FPM in OB-HR ?
I hope the answer is a NO.
Decide first if you want to really do an FPM and study for 4-5 years.
If you still want to do an FPM, go for it and give it your best shot (and leave rest to God/luck).
O no... of course not... i wouldn't give up... actually i am not worried about a 4-5 year commitment or the slogging because by what i have gathered, those years get very well accounted for in as prestigious a program as of any of the IIMs,; what i am concerned is about giving an optimal performance and getting selected ; ... therefore before jumping into a year of prep and profile-building i want to absolutely cover my bases... to make sure by any advice you may have or observations you may have had regarding similar cases, that this chink will not bias any admissions committee. thanks
@indianhoshi As of this moment, writing a good SOP and getting a good score in CAT/GMAT is in your hands. So focus on that. In the SOP you can mention about your career goals, research interests and how/why you took two years off. There is an FPM student currently who took a year off (actually 15 month sabbatical) after working for 10 years. So may be you can consider that as an inspiration.
Any ideas about when IIM-B will come out with their shortlist? In their brochure it is mentioned that RAT+interviews are to take place in first week of March... This is my first time at the FPM/PhD rounds so anxiety and trepidation is just killing Anyone else in the forum who applied at IIM-B in Finance Area??
@Anisen The shortlist should be out next week if not already out. They cannot delay it any further. PS: This is my take considering the last 3 year data. I will try to check with the FPM Office though.
