I think the Answer is (E) --> because "r" can take negative values as well and we are not given any information about that.

now lets take r =1 => 1 > 1/3 (true)
now take r =-1 => -1 > -1/3 ( false)
so 1 is not sufficient.......
now lets take second
2) r > 0
but it does give any info about p so we can not say any thing
so not sufficient
now lets take both
in p=r and r> 0
=> 1/r > r/(r^2 + 2) always true

The answer is B.
Option 1 does not give enough information about the sales of Friday and Saturday (the two days for which we have some knowledge about the sales activity). The number of books sold on Thurssay has no bearing on Friday's sale.
Option 2 says that the max no of books sold on any day is 38. Now to reach the total of 90 and by satisfying the rule that Friday should be the second max, we get a best case of

0 1 2 3 9 37 38
and a worse case of
6 7 8 9 10 12 38
As u can see, Friday's sale cannot be less than 11 and hence B satisfies the requirement.

for the third one:
as per given statement
5x + 3y
is 4x+4y
lets take first statement
as per it x now in equation 3 we are decreasing count of x and increasing count of y.
by reducing x we are saving less than a 1 $ but in this can we buy one more y is not sure ( that depends on price of y and total amount left from $10)
so this is not sufficient
now lets take second statement
as per it

as we dont have any info about 'y' i.e whether it costs more than x or less than x
we can not say
even if we take both the statements they reveal about 'x' only
so answer will be E (as you confirmed)

The answer is B.
(1) states that the x-3 >=y. The modulus of any number is always positive. So, (1) doesnt help us much.
(2) states that the modulus of x-3| which has to be positive, is less than or equal to a negative number (since y is positive). This cannot happen unless y is 0 and x-3 is 0. Hence x has to be 3. SUFFICIENT!
As for your "best approach" question, there just isnt one. Each question has its own bunch of tricks..

sorry , i didnt read question carefully......ans is D itself
x= profit in 1st yr
y= profit in 2nd yr
z= profit in 3rd yr
1. z= x+y
we need in which of the years were the profits greatest... it will be in 3rd year as sum of profits of first &second; sums to only third years.... so sufficient
2. y=3x
z=4x
so z will be highest.....so sufficient
For other question i calculated by drawing a venn diagram...i'll post explanation....

Generally, inequalities where u hv to find the range of the variable, u need 2 consider both scenarios....
Find the fourth consecutive even number:
(I) The sum of the last two numbers is 30
(II) The sum of the first two numbers is 22
Let no:s be x,x+2,x+4,x+6
1. x+4+x+6=30
so x=10 and 4th term is 16
2. x+x+2=22
so x=10 and 4th term is 16
So ans D
